Hello

Could someone please let me know if the following would work for getting Non O retirement visa from the UK.

In UK apply for a type-O 90 day Visa via E-Visa process. With 90 insurance policy covering over $800K. Will I also need to prove where I'll stay?

When completed, travel to Thailand and apply for 1 year retirement visa.

Will I need another insurance policy?

Many thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a Non-O retirement visa from the UK, you can first apply for a 90-day Non-O visa via the E-Visa process without the need for health insurance or proving accommodation. It's important to show that you have 800,000 baht in your bank account for the retirement visa application in Thailand, but you won't need another insurance policy after obtaining the 90-day visa.

You don’t need any insurance to apply for a regular 90 days Non O visa at the thai embassy in London. (Only Non O-A visa). And you don’t need to prove accommodation. If you apply for a regular Non O there’s no mandatory insurance requirement for the one year extension of stay in Thailand. (As I guess you mean with the one year retirement visa).

this is great news, once I have this , can I follow the normal process when in Thailand for the 1 year retirement visa ?

Yes you’ll have 90 days and can apply for one year extension of stay based on your Non O visa.

(Not a one year visa but a one year permission to stay based on your Non O visa.😉)

As your embassy doesn’t offer to provide you an affidavit letter to confirm your income, you’ll need to prove the first year yourself by banking 800K baht in a Thai bank. Has to be seasoned for two months prior to your application, so within the first month you’ll need to open a bank account and transfer the funds.

thanks so much, i guess getting a condo , lease agreement etc is required too, lots to plan... my passport runs out in March 2026, I suppose I will need to renew it before going through this process

Conc. Passport; Yes, I would renew it. Before my immigration, I renewed my passport and drivers license both, although still valid for a couple of years. So then no worries for many years arriving here.

Requirements for extension of stay varies a bit between the different immigrations so I suggest you go and get handed over the requirements at your immigration when you come. You’ll need minimum six months left on your passport upon entries and can get all your stamps transferred if you apply later depending on what suits you best. (You can enter with both the new and old passport together and get the stamps transferred at the immigration).

very helpful info, this seems easier than I thought lol... thanks for this :)

No need to use an agent. Just remember if you prefer to use the income method for your second year extension of stay by proving income/pension minimum equal to 65K baht a month, you should start to transfer as soon as the extension is issued so you’ll be able to show proof of twelve months consecutive transfers for your second year. Then the 800K baht is free to use.

thanks! I'll bear that in mind , I hope to keep the 800k in account if I can...

There is no insurance requirement for a non-O visa. The 800,000 baht requirement is how much money you have to show you have in the bank.

I'm sure I saw something about insurance when applying online via E-Visa... I'll check again, thanks

This is the regular Non O without insurance requirement.
