Is it simple to activate a 60-day visa by driving to Ranong and crossing into Myanmar?

Hi there.. Just a quick update. We extended our METV for 30 days today at Bluport. Too busy yesterday so we got there at 9.30 this morning, along with a few others. Immigration opened 20 mins early and we had everything completed by 11.00am. Record! We know need to leave the kingdom by the 29th January and are definitely considering driving to Ranong and catching the ferry over and doing it by ourselves. ( For our 60 day visa to be activated). Will this be simple enough to do? Is it worth it spending a few nights in Myanmar or just getting our Visa and having a little break back in Thailand. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has successfully extended their METV for an additional 30 days and plans to leave Thailand by January 29th, while considering driving to Ranong and crossing into Myanmar to activate a 60-day visa. However, there are questions regarding the simplicity of this process and whether it's worth spending time in Myanmar given current border situations and requirements.

Ranong is not so friendly .... used to be so nice, not anymore. You will need to show 20,000thb, onward ticket and proof of accommodation. This is for everyone. Anything missing and they will direct you to use one of the agents hanging around.

Someone stated the border crossings to Myanmar were closed to foreigners due to the fighting going on.

Ranong border with Myanmar is open for bounces. If they have a METV then they can bounce to activate another 60 day entry.

okay. I thought I seen a post from Brandon saying they were closed. I apologize.

all land borders are closed. But Ranong requires taking a boat. It's a very niche case to use and normally not worth mentioning.

so you're inferring that we couldn't even stay there for a couple of nights, just get the visa and leave asap?

I don't know Myanmar's rules. If they do allow you to stay, you will not be able to go very far though.

or should we just drive to Malaysia? I thought it would be quite a simple thing to do independently, from HH. Please advise - we don't know what to do for the best now.

that's a personal decision. Some reports from Malaysia border bouncers that they were required to spend a night in Malaysia

ok. Maybe it's just best to get the visa added then stay in the Ranong area afterwards?

Are you really on an METV (Multiple entry tourist visa) currently? Do you mean you are going for a further entry on it? I don't see how you can activate a tourist visa if you are already on an METV and you can't obtain a visa from inside Thailand.

little confusing but it sounds like they entered on METV and got a 30’day extension, at which point they will need to leave and reenter to get a fresh 60 days. METV is a tourist visa

that's exactly what we're hoping to do,at the end of January; leave Thailand and cross into Rayong to get a further 60;days on our METV. My question was how feasible this is and would it be better to leave Myanmar asap or should we stay there for a few days? Thank you
