What are the requirements and considerations for obtaining a DTV workcation visa in Thailand?

I have a few questions about obtaining a DTV "workcation" visa, any help/info welcome! (background: I have been living in Thailand learning Thai with an ED visa but am looking to transition to a more long-term visa once my ED visa has maxed out)

1. Do I need to have 500k TB in the bank for 3mo or 6mo before applying?

2. Can I have proof of the USD equivalent (~$16k) in an American bank, or must I have a Thai bank account?

3. Is there a minimum salary required to be approved for a workcation visa? (I currently make ~$23k annually, which is enough to support me in Thailand)

4. Anything else I should know/be aware of?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV workcation visa is an attractive option for expats looking to transition from an ED visa to a long-term stay in Thailand. Key points to consider include: 1) a requirement to show 500,000 THB in bank funds, though the duration may vary by embassy (3 to 6 months typically recommended), 2) proof of the equivalent amount in USD from an American account is acceptable, with no need for a Thai bank account, 3) there is no specified minimum salary, but overall financial stability is assessed, and 4) the visa lasts 5 years with a maximum stay of 180 days per entry, which is extendable. Applications must be made outside of Thailand, and maintaining funds above the minimum is advisable due to potential exchange rate fluctuations.

Hey!

1. The 500k THB usually just needs to be shown at the time you apply — no clear rule yet but keeping it for 3 or 6 months would be cushion.

2. US bank statements are fine. You don’t need a Thai bank account to apply.

3. There’s no official minimum salary. They look more at overall financial stability — your income sounds reasonable if you can support yourself.

4. Just note it’s a 5-year visa, but stays are 180 days per entry (extendable), and rules can vary slightly by embassy.

Things are still evolving, but a lot of people are moving from ED → DTV without issues. Hope it goes smoothly!

1) I would suggest 3+ months but it can vary by consulate. American account/USD is fine.

2) I would keep at least slightly more than the USD equivalent to cover exchange rate fluctuations.

3) No, not really. You just need to prove sustainability.

4) The DTV must be applied-for outside of Thailand, and you must remain in that consulate's jurisdiction until approval.

There is no income requirement, but they tend to ask for latest payslip, for reasons not certain... I think its to see if you really work for the company or not, cannot think many other reasons since one payslip is not guarantee for future income... i sent a monthly payslip for 5000euros and was accepted

1. 500,000 THB is required but duration is embassy specific. It's usually mentioned on the website.

2. You can have in USD equivalent and the account needn't be Thai account

3. Consistent income helps. There is no base amount specified.
