I have 3 questions on the DTV Visa.

1. Can you have a joint bank account with the 30k USD/1M Baht when you apply for the DTV visa? I don't want to give my wife 15k :)

2. Can you get a bank account in Thailand with a DTV visa? I have read you can get one in Pattaya.

3. Is the requirement of a 180 stay mean, you need to leave Thailand and come back every 180 days for up to the 5 years? Basically a run for the border every 6 months...

DTV visa is my best option. I don't have a pension or any passive income yet to apply for the other visa options.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about three aspects of the DTV Visa: the viability of maintaining a joint bank account for the $30,000/1M Baht requirement, the possibility of opening a bank account in Thailand under the DTV Visa, and the implications of the 180-day stay requirement which necessitates leaving Thailand regularly. Responses clarify that a joint account can be used for the visa application, direct account opening with a DTV visa may be limited but can be facilitated through agents, and confirm the need to leave Thailand every 180 days unless paying for an extension, alongside a requirement to report to immigration every 90 days.

1. Yes, joint bank account statement is what my husband and I used when we applied. He applied first using the soft power option and then once he was approved I applied as his spouse/dependent under his visa number.

2. Technically no, you can’t open a Thai bank account with the DTV; however, there are agents you can pay to open one for you.

3. Yes, you have to leave every 180 days or pay for an extension but you can only extend once per year. You will also have to report to immigration every 90 days (or leave to reset).
