Hello!

I’m from the UK and wanting to apply for a DTV at the beginning of 2026. I’ve been doing lots of research online but figured it’s best to ask people who have experienced the application process themselves so I’m 100% sure on what to do.

The DTV stands for 5 years, whilst living in Thailand, do you have to visit the embassy every 6 months or do you have to leave the country every 6 months and then re-enter? Can you also be denied re-entry at any time?

I know you need 500K THB when applying, do you need to keep this balance in your account at all times so they can check you still have this much money when you get re-checked every 6 months?

Any answers/advice to the above questions would be super helpful, thank you so much in advance😊

Also, feel free to DM me, I’m up to have conversations with people about their DTV experience!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTV visa allows for a 5-year stay in Thailand, but the application process can be challenging. Applicants do not need to visit an embassy in Thailand; instead, they must leave and re-enter the country every 180 days to maintain their visa status. There are no financial checks on re-entry, but a bank account with a balance of 500,000 THB is required during the application; it is unclear if this amount needs to be maintained continuously for re-checks every six months.

For your information DTV is classed as a tourist visa so it is very difficult to open a bank account.

No finances check on re-entry

There's no embassy to visit inside of Thailand, that wouldn't make sense.

You can get one extension each entry, in theory. But immigration doesn't want anything to do with the DTV so they purposely make it so difficult you won't want to do it. Just leave and return every 180 days.
