Based on recent reports from our clients at various immigration offices, visa exempt entries are now being limited to two across all borders, both land and air. Extensions are no longer guaranteed, and some offices are refusing to assist with transitioning to a new visa if your previous stay was based on an extension.

We're receiving a lot of inquiries about this. If you need help with in-country extensions, long term visa transitioning from exempt entry, or our prescreening and fast track services on exempt entry, please reach out as early as possible.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent reports indicate that visa-exempt entries to Thailand are now limited to two per year for all borders, both land and air. Extensions for previous stays are not guaranteed, and some offices are not assisting with transitioning to new visas if the prior stay was due to an extension. There are ongoing inquiries about how this affects various visa types, such as METV, APEC cardholders, and those who frequently travel for business or personal reasons. It is advised to contact immigration services as early as possible for assistance with in-country extensions and visa transitions.

Sounds old mate whose wife and children live in BKK will be limited to 2 trips a year instead of 5.

I've entered Thailand last December and left this February after 60 day + 30 days extension. I have on my passport few stamps and extensions of 2023 and 2024. Can it be a problem?

My nephew is a FIFO worker in Australia. So he comes to Thailand for 2 weeks and then flies back to Australia for 2 weeks ongoing. Will he be affected by the new rules

Maybe try to stay out 15+ days each time and it should not be a issue, as he is returning to his home country.

Is there any change with entries with METV? I came with this visa to Thailand just two days ago. I am planning leave to Vietnam at December, come back to Thailand before NY, leave again to Phillipines in February, stay there one week and then come back to Thailand again, stay until end of March and then flight back to my home country in Europe. I send all my travel plans to thai embassy in my home country and i got the visa. So I hope there are changes only related to visa exemptions and not METV, right?

@Honza *******
The changes are for VISA EXEMPT entries only, if you have a valid visa the changes do not affect you

Two per calendar year, or per 12 months?

Here is the official announcement:

How strictly this will be applied depends on each checkpoint, but even before this update the trend was already heading this way. Now it appears even stricter.

We’re already hearing reports from some borders that even a single bounce is being refused.

Is there any impact for APEC card holders coming in a few times per year for business meetings?

@Matthew ***
This is mostly related to exempt entry, we do not expect any issues for APEC card holders.

@Matthew ***
unlikely...especially as APEC card holders.

@Paul ******
thank you. I guessed it would be ok.

I like to visit Thailand every 6 weeks then go back to the U.K. will this new Restrictions be a problem for me
THAI ******************************

@Stephen *******
How long are your trips every 6 weeks, and is the UK your passport country?

If the UK is your passport country, and you keep flying from your passport country with that pattern this should not impact you at all.
Stephen ********
@THAI *****************************
Yes U.K. my country/passport I stay for the 60 days

@Stephen *******
It shouldn’t be a problem.

Traveling from your home country is usually fine, especially with more than 30 days between each trip.
Andy **********
So I normally visit 3 times a yr for 28 days does this affect me
Zach ********
@Andy *********
I visit 2 to 3 times a year sometimes just for a month sometimes for the whole visa exempt. I just left immigration in Khon kaen for my 30 day extension and it was smooth, no issues. Was there for maybe 40 minutes from walking in the door.

If your trips aren’t back to back, it usually doesn’t cause any issues (1 or more months between each short trip).

The concerns mainly apply to people using consecutive entries to live in Thailand.

@Andy *********
You will probably need to play it safe by using a 60-day tourist visa for one of the entries.

thats what I was thinking, maybe more reason to try Da Nang lol

I know many post about it, but only officials sources should be trusted, meaning Immigration Bureau and Royal Gazette.

That is the official memorandum issued by immigration itself, no updates to the law necessary it is just a change of enforcement, and it started the day it was announced.

@THAI *****************************
Bangkok Post is not a source. It should be department of government or authority.

As mentioned, the memorandum was sent to every immigration office and border checkpoint, and it appears to be a follow-up to a new directive that clarifies the points in the original order..

We've already seen this reflected in the dozens of new reports coming in each day. This was just one of the additional protocols, there are more listed in the memorandum.

Might I suggest you accept the link shown by Thai Visa Centre as official. Rather than arguing with them about reality with the recent changes in Visa Exempt Entry. TVC does know what is happening.

@Ulrik ************
The Gazette doesn't apply in this case. There is no change to published law.

Also if you are worried about receiving a 7 day stamp with an order to leave, reach out to us before you try. Some offices will give you no choice and will issue the stamp immediately, while others may offer options depending on your situation.

Also if you have normal travel then there is nothing to worry about, this is mostly related to visa running / border bouncing without a long term visa.
