TLDR : Answer Summary
While there is no formal limit on the number of 30-day visa-exempt entries permitted via air, it is commonly noted that travelers may be questioned after approximately 4 to 6 entries in a calendar year. Some travelers have reported being advised to opt for a proper tourist visa after frequent entries, as immigration officers may raise concerns over repeated visa-exempt entries.

went to Western Union to send $600.00 to Philippines.. but could not for some reason I am Blocked from sending money! unbelievable. But sent it using MoneyGram and it was less expensive too. So anyway my gf has enough cash to show immigration when she arrives. Probably come up with another reason to stop being landed!!!

I'm applying for a new passport on Friday. Would this wipe the slate clean?

Yeah but they're way too lazy to look at the computer screen...they search the passport more often than not ;-)

getting a new passport only "wipes the slate clean" when you're applying for visas at a thai consulate because they're not on any database.

It won't matter in the least if you change passports when you come into the country because they cross-search by DOB, sex, surname, country of origin, etc. Your entire entry/exit history will show to the immigration officers

No all your information is in a computer file

I did it about 4 times (maybe 5 but pretty sure 4) last year and on the last time they showed me some computer screen with something big and red flashing and said I couldn't keep coming and going like that. They let me in but told me the next time I needed to get a proper tourist visa (which I did the next time). They were generally nice about the situation and I didn't completely understand the conversation but I think the concern they were expressing was that the visa exempt doesn't provide any revenue to them so they don't want it overused - better to get the tourist visa. I think they tried to also say something about a limit to the number of times (6?) but I hadn't hit that limit and, again, I might not have understood fully what they were trying to express.

@D**
, i deleted the posts where you quoted a website that had totally wrong information. sorry ;)

- I am not even going to open the link. There is no such thing as a 30 day VOA (visa on arrival), so any website that can't even get the basics right is not worthy of any trust.

I think they're just taking a dim view of endless visa exempt entry stamps in a passport.

I know some oil workers who do 28 on, 28 off and they are getting hassled about 30 day visa exempt entry stamps even though they have proof of onward travel when they arrive, have never stayed more than 28 days at a time and are out of the country for another 28 days..

As I said, I probably misunderstood. :)

@Jer***
, sometimes the officers try to parrot that old "no more than 180 days in a year" by visa exempt entries rule that was rescinded a LONG time ago.

There is no real rule about how many you can get. Like
@Dan***
, said you'll flag in the system after 4 to 6 entries usually,

I dunno how much I buy into your premise that they were saying visa exempt entries don't generate "them" income. :/ Even entering on a tourist visa generates the thai immigration office ZERO income because tourist visas are sold at thai consulates outside the country run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs NOT the Royal Thai Police ;)

there are start asking sometimes after 4-5-6 arrivals - yes ---- by law there is no limit, but if you come often, they want you to get a real visa and not come by excemption.
Jeff ******
@Jeremy *******
I think I probably misunderstood that part so I wouldn't consider that in any way reliable information. Especially since I definitely hadn't done that many in either a calendar year or a 12 month period.
Jeremy ********
is the 6x per calendar year?

I don't want to sound condescending but I'm sure I passed an exchange booth and ATM just before immigration couple days ago at suvarnabhumi
Jeremy ********
Yes, but you will have to have 20,000 THB in hard currency or the equivalent in other currencies if the Immigration Officer [IO] singles you out wanting to see it before entering....

there have been 4 reports this week alone of foreigners being denied entry into Thailand for not having hard cash on them....

The IO did not want to see a credit card, online bank acct, or print out from an ATM, Passbook or other that shows it, they all wanted to see hard currency of 20,000THB or the equivalent in other currencies in hand....

This is just a Public Service Announcement to help facilitate your immigration process for entry into Thailand.

no official limit but expect to be questioned if you do it 5 or 6 times in a year.
