What are the current visa exemption entry rules for Thailand and the potential risks of being denied on repeat entries?

ORIGINAL POSTER
If in fact many people are being denied entry to Thailand visa exempt as has been reported, they must be denied upon their second visa exempt entry attempt, given the start date of the 60 day change was 15 July 24. I guess it is then safe to say, after the first 60 day visa exempt entry with 30 day extension, there is no guarantee of being allowed in visa exempt a second time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the recent trend of individuals being denied entry into Thailand under the visa exemption rule. Several users share personal experiences, noting that while some have successfully entered multiple times using the exemption, others report being grilled or questioned at immigration. The discussion reflects on governmental efforts to control immigration and the potential scrutiny facing frequent visitors. Multiple posts suggest that despite the possibility of repeated entries, the discretion lies with the immigration officers.

Like any country even if you have a visa itā€™s the immigration officers discretion.
Bart **************
@Ian ********
there's an important difference between with and without a visa though: having a visa you're not supposed to be refused entry. It comes down to having been given entry permission by the respective country's MFA, which ought to have weighed in all the relevant factors available, e.g. also your entry history. Although an IO can technically refuse entry even to entrants with a visa, we must assume that they won't. Not having a visa means that whether or not you are good to enter is entirely determined by the IO, and that's where your history is then considered.

Since August I've entered 3 times using visa exemption i never extend due to work rotation. I've never had a problem but I was asked by the last immigration officer where I would be staying. I told him with my girlfriend first and then her family for New Year. He accepted this without any further questions, I even offered her address and phone number when he asked but he wasn't interested. I got the feeling he asked because he had to, not because he wanted to or even cared.

You should consider carrying an invitation letter from your GF and possibly her family every time you leave for work. If asked upon reentry you can easily provide. Years ago I would always go to KL for my Non-O visa application. I always needed to give them an invitation letter from my Thai wife.
Steven ******
@Galen ***************
it's something I've considered. To be honest I should really just sort out a proper visa and register myself at her home when I arrive. Its just further down the pecking order than sorting my sons uk passport and my girlfriends visa so they can come to the UK.

@Steven *****
The problem these days with short work rotations is you are never in Thailand, or neighboring countries, long enough to get a visa. I had the same problem when I worked offshore. I was very happy when I hit 50. I then could go onto a retirement visa which was much easier to manage than a marriage visa. So many people live in Thailand that work offshore. I do not understand why Immigration cannot cater more to this group.

@Galen ***************
I was offshore until August of this year when I moved to

rotation onshore in Libya to get more time in Thailand with my son. I feel like, and I am, abusing the visa exemption and tourist visa system but it's due to a lack of suitable alternatives. A problem with this is I'm asked about a visa in Libya everytime i leave and last time the guy didn't really believe me but didnt care enough to do any thing about it, i only need one who does care and im knackered. I discussed marriage, although very briefly, with my long term girlfriend but she doesn't really want to pay her rather large family the money they would be expecting so that removes that as an option for me. I'm hoping the multi entry non o becomes available online again soon and then I'll just jump through the required hoops for that.
Galen ****************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steven *****
I don't know your age so I don't know if you would qualify for Non-O retirement. Marriage may be your only option to get a Non-O. With the online system they now use, I believe there are no longer one year multiple entry Non-O visa's available. You apply for the first 90 day visa and then extend in Thailand. You may want to speak with a visa agent to see what alternatives you might have. All the best to you and Good Luck!

This type of process is so typical here. They make the process easy so more people can more easily come here and spend there money. Now maybe they are seeing that control is being lost, so it's time to backtrack by now making things more difficult for visa exempt entries. But of course it's the tourists fault for not applying for proper visa. No loss of face for officials.

why would you pay the money for a tourist visa when you can get a 60 day visa exempt for free?? the VISA stuff in this country is very complicated. And the VISA exempt is just as hard. I left for 4 months and came back to visit and nearly was denied. I read a post and the comments in the Thai Visa Advice - Q&A last night. A Moderator posted this comment that I copied & posted below:

"Thai Immigration Officers are becoming more strict on questioning those who have been in Thailand using back to back visa exempt entry plus extensions.

Over 1,000 people at BKK Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok and DMG Don Mueang airport Bangkok were denied entry in the recent week. And returned to their initial flight departure city at travelers expense.

Mostly for multiple uses of the visa exempt entry with extensions.

Suggest you use a land border crossing if you try to get a second visa exempt entry. And use an experienced border run service company to take you with same day return.

They PRE-ARRANGE your exit and reentry to get the New 60 day STAMP as Visa Exempt Entry."

who said I'm paying an agent for something free to me? Read more carefully. The Thai agent pisses in the same pot as the official issuing the visa exemptions. We are purely customers paying fees to a local business which processes 100s of foreigners weekly. The agent facilitates the desired outcome. If they didn't they'd get no more customers. Not so complicated ?
Luit *****************
@David ******
When you will think just a very little bit, you can only come to the conclusion that the officer gets money to ignore the fact you should not get visa exempt. You pay the fees to a local business, that is true, but you know the rules, and you pay far to much just for the trip.

We both know why you pay the extra money.

define ā€œnormal reasonable standards ā€. We're in Thailand yesļ¼Ÿ Thai agents market visa,services. All I'm saying is don't pretend for one moment that you're unaware a bribe is being paid.
