TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about the possibility of obtaining a visa exemption for Thailand after having used two border crossings within the year. Responses clarify that while air entries into Thailand do not technically have a limit, immigration officers can interrogate individuals attempting to live long-term on tourist or exemption visas. Suggestions include applying for a non-immigrant O visa based on having a Thai child, which allows for extended stays and work permits, though specific documentation is required. Further discussions revolve around the complexities and potential costs associated with securing the appropriate visa.

As with the other posts. Depending on how many 30 day entries you have could determine your fait in getting back in. I returned on a 60 day tourist visa this time and was questioned

2 times only by land border but by air it's not unlimited but there is no written law on how many times you can enter by air but as always in thailand it's all dependent on the IO infront of you at time of entry when you show to many entries in their mind they grill you over it never any guarantee with these guys

IF you have the required documents,

birth certificate (Naming you as father)

House book of the child

Tm30 address registration

Passport copies

Passport photo

Usual thai forms, it's pretty simple.

You can apply for a 60 day visit Thai family extension on each entry.

So visa exempt 30 days +

Tourist extension 30 days +

Visit family 60 days = 120 days

** until some IO says something**

You should get yourself a non immigrant O visa on the basis of having a Thai child. It'll give you 90 days and then you can extend for a year if you have the funds. If not a year then a 60 days extension at your local immigration office. If you're name is on the birth certificate it should be fairly straightforward. Best place to do it is Savannakhet Laos. Catch a flight to Nakhon Phanom from Don Muang. Then a mini van to the Mukdahan boarder crossing. The way the flights work out usually means you have to stay over two nights. This is your best option for now because your rights as a parent are more than just a tourist. Oh and you can also get your work permit on the visa if you manage to extend it to a year. It should be possible with either 400,000 baht deposit into your acc from abroad or a 40,000 baht income from abroad. Having this should help reduce the headache of getting a work visa and make the process of getting a work permit a bit easier.

Does the Thai wife/mother need to be present?

no you can leave and do this alone. You just need to have the correct original documents with you. Sometimes you'll need a letter of invitation from the mother/wife. Thai embassy Savannakhet have list of everything you will need and the last time I checked it was all correct. They even answer the phone ha ha.

I've done the whole process for as little as 7-8k before. But if you want to fly and enjoy yourself a bit when your there about 15-20k. 15 is well doable if you watch your cash.

@Kevin *****
for the non immigrant 90 day single entry it should be fairly easy to do it all yourself for about 20k. It'll be way better than a tourist visa or visa exempt.

I just edited the comment so have a look if I have helped.

There is no official limit on Air Ins, but eventually you will get talked to by an overzealous I/O….

why don’t you purchase a 60 day SETV and extend it for 30 days at your local immigration office for ฿1,900….

FYI if you purchase a visa and return via ground it doesn’t count against your 2 land crossings per calendar year (01 Jan - 31 Dec)

Good luck

With a Thai child you can get a non o visa easily, 3 months.

You said that YOU have a half Thai son. I assumed that you made the child yourself 😉

Technically no limit flying in, but they could give problems when they decide you're trying to stay long term on tourist entries.
Darren *******
Unlimited by air until immigration officers decide you're trying to live in Thailand with a visa exemption or tourist visa if you go down that route.
