Wishing all of you good luck that there will be some good news on Monday and not just “account closed, wait 10 days for withdrawal”

TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent discussions among DTV visa holders indicate growing concerns over locked Bangkok Bank accounts. In the week of August 25, 2025, many expats are anxiously waiting for updates, with reports of lengthy wait times at bank branches. Some individuals have been informed that their accounts will be closed despite having proper documentation, leading to frustration within the community. Overall, the situation remains tense, with no clear resolution in sight.
Just got the call from Bangkok Bank Pattaya Beach Road Branch that the head office decided to close my account. Even with DTV Visa+Chanote (condo owner) and all the supporting documents…
Anonymer Teilnehmer 234 sure thing, I just gave it a try and as long as it works it works. But you are right, the development for us Farangs doesn’t look really good right now in case of Thai Banking. How should owners like us pay for utilities etc. in future if we are for example outside of Thailand. Really annoying…:(
Anonymer Teilnehmer they told me that I can go to any branch to close the account finally, but when arriving at any branch you should call the home branch that the home branch can explain what happened 😂
Fortunately I already put some months ago all of the money to other accounts only having 1 Baht on this account right now 😂😂😂👍
Unbelievable — does Bangkok Bank really think all of those foreigners in line are scammers? I would think requesting customers to go in person to verify their identity would be sufficient. No need to close accounts.
What’s next? immigration requesting people to report 90 days so that they can deport them right after.
Fair point - but a good percentage of those DTVers are people changing over from a retirement or other long term visa (like me). We spend our earnings through the account, which for most is at least 50k to 120k a month. I even keep my 500k balance in the Thai bank. In summary, BBL should just look at banking history and whether the account holder has a verified identity. Having a blanket policy is ridiculous in this day and age.
Thailand420 I think a lot of accounts from DTV holders are not really profitable, so when they have to do extra work, it is a good excuse to close the accounts. I hear a lot of people saying the main reason for the account is Promptpay and not paying high ATM fees. That does not generate income for the bank, it only cost money. In other countries tourist also not open bank accounts, so why would they in Thailand?
Every morning 20+ people waiting in Jomtien before it opens. Unfortunately I went later and received #59. As of 2pm they were just getting to number 14...
Did they tell you right then and there that they will be closing your account and to come back next week to cash out? They told me to wait till last Friday or today to hear what they decide but I haven't heard anything yet.
