TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion focuses on a user's confusion regarding their METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) expiration and the implications for extending their stay in Thailand. They received a 30-day extension after their visa expired on April 3rd, but commenters explain that if they had re-entered Thailand before this expiration, they could have been granted an additional 60 days. However, there are ongoing concerns about the maximum allowed stay duration (157 days per year) and stricter enforcement of rules by immigration authorities. The community advises caution with visa runs, especially given the user's accumulated days in the country.

If you do the visa run, upon re entering getting 60 days might not work for you,

If your current stay is 97 days or more in this year, they most probably will not give you 60 days reentry and will most probably deny you entry,

The person who told you to do the visa run and then do an extension may be confused as you will not get it.

The imm rules are very clear,

No one on a tourist visa is allowed to stay more than 157 days per year in the country,

So you could try doing it but including your visa run, if it accumulates to over 157 days, you will be denied entry,,

I don’t see this as a METV Stamp,…

Michael Riddermann Munck Pedersen because it’s only an extension and re-entry permit stamp on his last 60 days TR entry.

It sounds like you are confusing the stamps in your passport with the validity of your visa. You have been given the 30 day extension you asked for, but look at the actual visa you have been issued with. That should have a "valid until" date and if it is a multiple entry visa every time you enter Thailand before that "valid until" date you should be stamped in for 60 days plus can extend by 30 days

30-day extension can only have it once, another 7-day extension, then no extension, laws have changed

Frà Cir not in this case, and no laws have changed, rules are being more tightly enforced and abusers are being targeted. What you were talking about is basically on the free visa exempt stamps. With the METV you're eligible for a single 30day extension on each entry.
