What should I do about my expiring work permit and extension of stay in Thailand?

Hi all, so my work permit, and therefore my extension of stay, expires this coming Friday (the 10th). My school have told me to leave my work permit with them, and they will cancel it on the Monday following its expiry (the 13th) 3 days after it expires. I have a flight out in August (booked before covid). I was planning on doing a border bounce, but this is no longer possible.

Will I automatically be granted amnesty until the 31st of July? Do I need to do anything or go to immigration to cancel my extension of stay on the Friday? I wont have a receipt for a cancelled work permit if I go to immigration on the day everything expires.

Thank you very much - I will try push for sorting everything out myself. I really dont know why theyre saying they will cancel it themselves, and only on the Monday after it expires.

Much appreciated :)

You visit your employer, sign some papers that you stop working at day xx/xx/xx. Get copies of this document, visit the Ministry of Labor, the office which you visited to get the Work Permit, and cancel the work permit on day xx/xx/xx.

You wil get document that Work Permit is cancelled and with the letters form your employer and documents of the Ministry of Labor you visit the Immigration Office and cancel your Extension of Stay with last day xx/xx/xx

Thanks for the replies Benjamin and Robert - this is the first time Im going through this, so Im not sure what to expect. My school told me I needed to sign some forms, and that would be it...

>I would imagine you may want to go to your local immigration office and get that cancelled; it is your extension of stay after all.

Will I need to bring anything with me for this? When cancelling an extension of stay, Ive always read I will need a receipt for a cancelled work permit - but I wont have that by Friday.

You cancel YOUR work permit and YOU cancel YOUR Extension of Stay. Do not hand out YOUR WP and Passport to others in the hope they follow the rules
