If I was to marry a Thai woman, would I still be required to maintain a bank balance of 850,000 baht per year like if it was a retirement visa? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When marrying a Thai woman and seeking a visa extension based on that marriage, the financial requirement is significantly lower compared to a retirement visa. You would need to show either a bank balance of 400,000 baht for at least two months prior to applying or provide a notarized letter from your consulate confirming a monthly income of 40,000 baht. This contrasts with the requirements for a retirement visa, which typically necessitates a bank balance of 800,000 baht or a higher monthly income.

Respectively, I have a Thai wife (going on 10+ years) and I’m over 50 years old. I opt go the retirement route vs marriage to a Thai. I don’t deposit money in a Thai bank account but get a letter from my Embassy that my retirement income is more than 65k THB a month. Easier —-

so lets say you got married in Bangkok and later on you moved to somewhere else in Thailand.

Whould you have to go back to Bangkok or get the kor ror 2 where you lived.

The document that proves you are still married is the Kor Ror 2. This image shows the Kor Ror 2 on the left (the one that looks like a form) and the Kor Ror 3 on the right (the one with the rose border) .

You can get a new Kor Ror 2 from the Amphur because some immigration offices want a new form to show you haven't gotten divorced yet :O

@Tony ********
- per the above, it was mentioned for the marriage Visa/extension but not needed for the retirement Visa/extension.

Less copies is good.

Based on marriage goes under consideration for 30 days before you get the Extension of Stay and application based on being over 50 years of age is about 10 copies less.

Something to consider also. Thanks

You always get a good explanation from Tod. 🙂

a yearly extension of stay based on marriage to a thai is 400K baht banked in an account in your name for 2 months prior to your application only OR a notarized letter from your consulate stating you get 40K baht a month in income from abroad.

If you're getting a yearly extension based on being over 50 (retirement) you'd bank 800K baht for 60 days before your first application for extension and 3 months for every year after that OR you'd get a notarized letter from your consulate stating you get 65K baht a month in come from abroad OR you use a combination of banked and income affidavit to meet 800K baht for the year
