I applied for my second extension today. Everything went smoothly thanks to the kind and helpful officers at Jomtien Immigration. After accepting my documents, they gave me a form stating I need to bring an updated bank statement/bankbook to the same counter along with my next 90-day report. I'm aware of the financial requirements to keep the extension valid, but I don't remember receiving this document after my first extension last year — seems like a new requirement to me.
Answer summary
The user shares their experience of applying for a second extension at Jomtien Immigration and notes a new requirement to provide an updated bank statement along with their next 90-day report. This has raised questions about changing financial requirements for visa extensions, prompting discussion among commenters about visa regulations, entry types, and the immigration officer's discretion.

I used to enter every 8 weeks for 2 weeks - visa exempt. I once asked an I.O. at the airport if I would have a problem at some point doing that. He looked at my entry history and told me I would have no problem as I left for 8 weeks - what they were looking for was people who were spending long periods in the country, doing visa runs etc. - they were suspected of in fact living in Thailand and/or working illegally. I think that would still be valid but they have been making a lot of noise about clamping down recently - how much of that will be put into practice remains to be seen but just make sure you have all the usual entry requirements with you. I was though - eventually warned about entering visa exempt as they spotted some previous Non O's in my history and guessed I was visiting my wife. I was told to get a visa.

Phil Wilson I was doing 60 days twice a year, with a 4 month spell in my own country, between visits. Immigration didn’t like it, even though I spent 8 months out of 12 in my own country.

If you've got a visa it is different to entering with no visa.

A lot of people get confused over the names of types on entry. For tourism, there's visa exempt, visa on arrival and visa. Citizens of some countries need to apply for a visa on arrival, others have to apply for a visa for any travel at all and some need to apply for a visa for specific purposes or longer periods. UK citizens can currently enter visa exempt for 60 days (probably dropping to 30 shortly) or apply for a specific visa if they either want to stay longer or wish to enter for a purpose other than tourism. I know many, including myself, have entered visa exempt to visit their Thai wife but technically that is against the rules, they should apply for a Non O (an Immigration Officer's words, not mine).

Visa exempt will be 30 days (currently still 60) so yes, no problem.

A calendar year is irrelevant. If you are entering visa exempt the immigration officer will look at your history over the past 12 to 18 months and make a judgement based on that. If that history is under around 150 days or less you should be OK but it always pays to have the 3 proofs available... 20k baht or equivalent in cash, a ticket out and accommodation booked

Do you mean a Visa on Entry is a Tourist visa from the eVisa website?

I'm pretty sure what the OP is referring to is a visa exempt entry which is for a longish list of countries and currently allows a 60 day stay (though this may change to 30 days soon).

There is a visa on arrival (VOA), but that's different - it's a visa you get after you arrive, at the airport. It's only applicable to a shorter list of 31 countries and allows for a 15 day stay.

yes as long as your past 12 to 18 month history of tourism visits doesn't look like you're abusing the system in the eyes of the IO
