Two questions

(1) is the 60 visa exempt no longer operating ? From Australia

(2) also I rang the consulate in Canberra and was told I now can’t get a 12 month multi entry visa but now need a 3 month visa and apply for an extension, is this correct ??

I have a Thai wife and we travel frequently between the two countries, however now things appear to have changed. Totally confused 😩

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, the 60-day visa exemption is still available for Australians traveling to Thailand, but the 12-month multi-entry Non-O visa is no longer an option due to changes in the visa system. You can apply for a 3-month visa and extend it for additional stays, including a possible 60-day extension for visiting Thai family while in Thailand.

Get a 90 day Non-O before travelling which you can extend in country with a "Visit Thai Family" 60 day extension giving you 5 months or a 12 month extension and a re-entry permit which gives you your 6 month stay plus your entry the following year (this requires 400k in a Thai bank account for just over 2 months each year at the time of applying for the extension)

that is great advice, was thinking of opening a bank account with 40,000 baht a month income from my Australian bank as person married to a Thai woman. Depositing to account when I have the account open ( 400,000 not an option as it earns a good income in Australia )

Once it grows to 400,000 then that will work also.

Any further suggestions??

you cannot get Visa extenmsions with 40k income, you'll need 400k as Australia does not do the income affidavit and most Immigration Offices do not accept 40k transfers. You can transfer your 400k back after you get your extension if you wish or use it for living expenses.

60 day visa exempt is still available but not 12 months multi entry

1. 60-day VISA EXEMPT still available for Australians to enter Thailand subject to IO.

if you just walkin you get 60 days free. This can be extended an additional 30 days for ฿1900. Or you can apply for a visa Non O in the evisa website in Australia. Personally walkin is easy

฿1900 for the 30 day extension. If you choose to do inside Thailand have everything prepared and go talk to your local immigration. Then submit the required paperwork

Don't forget you can get a 60 day extension for "visiting Thai family" when you are here too.

1) Still 60 visa exempt for you.

@Lloyd *******
thanks

that’s what I thought we often go 60 day and get extension at local

immigration

Now it looks like any longer I will need 3 month and then get further extension if we wish to stay 6 months
Lloyd ********
6 months would require at least one border bounce however you enter.

@Lloyd *******
that worked with the 12 month multi entry.

married I usually just make it known at local immigration when we arrive and they are happy to do the extension for 1,800 baht.

So I guess it’s a case of we will see, on arrival

2) Yep nearly every single place in the world stopped the year long multi-entry Non-O when they switched to the e-visa system.

@Lloyd *******
thanks that explains it previously I needed to show evidence of date to arrive and then depart, I’m guessing that may no longer be the case if I need to apply for extension to total 6 months.
Lloyd ********
Entering visa exempt, you MAY be asked by the airline for proof of onward travel within 60 days, entering on a single entry Non-O you will not.
