Is the O-A Visa the best option for Australian citizens over 60 spending six months in Thailand?

I am an over 60 Australian citizen wishing to spend 6 months of every year in Thailand (the other six months in Australia). Is the simplest solution to apply for an O-A visa with multi entry every year prior to leaving for Thailand? Would Thai immigration have any issues with my annually reapplying for an O-A Visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian citizen over 60 years old inquiring about spending six months in Thailand has options for obtaining long-term visas. The O-A visa allows for a continuous two-year stay with reapplication every two years, but the multi-entry tourist visa is also a viable alternative, requiring brief exits every 60 days. This is particularly beneficial for those needing to limit their residency for tax purposes.

You can get as many Non-O-A visas as you want to.

Thanks James and Joe. For tax reasons I need to limit my annual stay in Thailand as a resident to less than 180 days in a year. Maybe the multi entry tourist visa for 6 months is a better option as I am not taking up residency outside of Australia. I assume with the 6 month multi entry tourist visa I would have the slight inconvenience of having to get say a cheap flight to Vietnam or another SE Asian country every 60 days and then flying back to Thailand after a day or two?

Yes, OR you can hop over the border by land (the Kanchanburi/ Myanmar is the easiest if you live in Bangkok).

A long as you meet the O-A Requirements, you can get a new O-A every two years

The O-A Visa actually allows a two year stay

Thanks Barry. I believe that would mean 60 days per visit. What if I wanted to stay continuously in Thailand for 6 months and only departing at the end of the six months?

Multi entry tourist visa is another option for 6 month visits. And you don’t need to keep as much money .
