Is it problematic to re-enter Thailand multiple times on a visa exemption in one year?

Question: I'm visiting Thailand beginning of 2025 on a visa exempt..planning to stay 1-2 months, after which I want to fly to another Asian country and spend there one week before returning to Thailand for another couple of weeks (so another visa exempt).

Could this possibly be problematic upon flying back to Thailand? I've heard stories that entering Thailand twice a year on a visa exempt is not always granted anymore since the introduction of the DTV.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses concerns about re-entering Thailand multiple times within a year on a visa exempt status. It suggests potential issues arising from recent immigration policy changes with the introduction of the DTV. However, several community comments provide anecdotal evidence that multiple entries within a year have not presented problems for travelers, indicating that experiences may vary depending on individual travel history and the discretion of immigration officers.

I entered 6 times last year no problem at all, 3 overseas trips and 3 visa runs

It becomes an issue if you are using it to live in Thailand. As a tourist it’s not a problem.

I also entered 3 times last year. No problem. I was there in February, again in September and went to Vietnam and Indonesia, then back to Thailand in middle of October. I'm going back next month.

my concern is that things might have recently changed a bit...beginning 2024, no problem...but now it's getting more complicated from what I've heard.

Personally, I entered 3 times within a year last year - end of Dec, June and again in late July. No issues at all

ah got it. I guess the release of the DTV is supposed to keep people from doing that, idk

when I say within a year last year I meant 2024. I entered dec 28 of 2023, June 2024 and end of July 2024. Sorry that wasn’t very clear. But I guess yeah it’s been like 5 months, stuff could have changed

your first two visa-exempt entries were on the old 30-days stay permit. However the wind blows from a different direction now. Since the introduction of the 60-days visa-exempt, more and more Immigration officers at the borders are eying your complete travel history more closelier than ever. While two consecutive exempt entries are not a problem at all, a third attempt might run afoul

All about your travel history into Thailand and if IO having a bad hair day or not.

Sure in reality you shouldn't have a problem but all up to the officer in front of you.

Maybe look into metv?

yeah, that has always been true, especially for Thailand 👍.

METV would be too much work for me...then I'll probably just stay in Thailand and visit the other countries another time. But thanks for the suggestion.

What do you mean with too much work for METV? It is a quite straightforward and simple process as long as your country uses evisa system.

You welcome, well if you are over 50 maybe look into non o retirement visa? Then you can get re-entry permit and come and go as you please. 😊

The Non-O is just a 90 day Visa so might not give the OP the number of days required on return to Thailand on a re-entry permit

True, my bad. But it can be extended for a year, forgot to mention that.
