TLDR : Answer Summary
The thread discusses a recent case of an Australian man, along with a friend, being denied entry into Thailand after years of using various visa types and exemptions. Community comments reflect mixed feelings about his situation, questioning the ethics of repeatedly staying in Thailand through tourist and education visas without clear evidence of financial means to support such an extended stay. Some commenters suggest that there are many individuals who have successfully navigated the immigration system previously, hinting at a changing stance from Thai authorities towards long-term visa usage. The overall consensus signals a warning to those considering similar visa strategies.
There is just something NOT quite right with this story.
While I appreciate people finding and posting links to people who have been denied entry keep in mind of the THOUSANDS of people that stamp in every week very VERY few get denied. Most of those people have a history of living here on back-2-back tourist visas, visa exempts, ED visas and extensions. It's not rocket surgery or brain science to realize the people at passport control ARE looking at your entry history.
There is the problem. With the ED Visa, Tourist Visa and Visa Exempt Entry, you are not allowed to engage yourself in any profession or occupation while in the country. It raise even with me the question: How do you fund 11 years inside Thailand without doing any profession or occupation, simply said doing any work to gain income.
So do you think the immigration should raise this question everytime when someone arrives to Thailand? Just treat everyone like criminals? That is OK for you?
Jussi Pajala Buying a condo should not be your priority in life. Getting a longer period of stay from Thai Immigration to enjoy your condo should be the first priority.
Jussi Pajala Maybe. But than you need to explain that to the Thai Immigration Officer, before they make a decision or get the investment visa for Thailand, or invest in the Thai Elite Visa for 5, 10 or 20 years and avoid questions at Immigration check points.
Maybe his close relative left inheritance? It is know to happen. Many kind if investments in Thailand or abroad can easily make profit sufficient to sustain a long holiday.
Something not right with the story. If the guy is so wealthy why not buy an elite visa. If you are so rich why need to go on ed visas in and out the country etc. I call bs.
Coming from a country overrun with illegal immigration I have to say I don’t feel bad for the guy. He said many times he lived in Thailand, beyond the Ed visa and such. So it was only a matter of time. As the OP claims to be financially secure why not just buy the Elite Visa and be done with it?
There are many many like him who have gamed the Thai Immigration system. Times are changing. Some still gloat over their repeated success in multiple entries.
After a warning stamp on my tourist visa, I just use visa exempt entries. One warning was not enough, why not get a visa that fits the purpose of stay. Or at least have some documents to proof you have a foreign income to fund your stay in Thailand.
