TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent discussions reveal confusion and disagreements among expats regarding the rules for border runs in Thailand. Reports indicate that while one border agent stated that only two border runs by land are permitted, others found that this limitation is not consistently enforced. Some individuals reported no restrictions on border runs, while others noted that each immigration officer may interpret the rules differently. This variance leads to experiences where some expats successfully complete multiple border runs without issues, while others face scrutiny or need to comply with different regulations, particularly concerning stays in neighboring countries like Laos.

Why wouldn't anybody do DTV instead of border runs is beyond me.
Graham ******
@Rober ******
Not everybody qualifies for a DTV
Rober *******
@Graham *****
literally everyone qualifies via soft power/medical treatment. Someone posted they qualified over simply having a follow up appointment at the doctors.

I qualified similarly (although a once a month elective (cosmetic) treatment over 3 months)

I asked the officer on the way back to Thailand when I visited Laos and she informed me that you are allowed to enter by using a land border two times each year. That you can fly in and out of the country as often as you want, keeping in mind you need visas if staying a long while
John *******
How about in my situation. Only parent of a thai child living here have all court documents.

On family visa.

But I'm thinking what IO would refuse me with my paperwork.

Just the 400k is basically dead money.
John *******
Most officers don't like swapping and won't so you obviously went to somewhere recommended by your visa people that is know to push this through.

To then spout off to everyone you can do this tit.

Just cause you can do something in one district here doesn't mean you can do it in another tit mate come on wake up.
John *******
No you are wrong if you done it been under the table depending also immigration you go to which one.

If you lived in thailand long enough you know this will be true.
John *******
**********************************************************************************************************************************
Phil ***********
@John ******
you can pay in 40k baht on the 1st of every month to pass non o for being a dad (about 1000gbp) which u can also spend day2day so long as its in every month.
John *******
So ya wrong fella
John *******
@Phil **********
that not entirely true. If you talking about ofsetting the 400k by income they don't see wages you have show tax code for that money
Phil ***********
@John ******
I'm in a car right now on the way home from the office with my visa done. I print bank statements show them I standard dd 40k month into my Thai bank from my home saving account.

I also have a son and I also have single custody.

And I just passed and got my visa so maybe check the web site 'fella'
John *******
I looked online already says nothing about showing 40k a month for a family visa.
John *******
@Phil **********
must be back handers or you are on a work visa.

When I spoke to my lawyer about not having 400k as a family visa showing 40k a month he said no.

They won't wanna see that it the tax code they want to see plus ya get tax on the 400k if you shoe new law over 180 days.

So elaborate cause if that works with zero chance getting tax I'll do that.

But I thing the information you are giving is wrong.
Phil ***********
what visa office you with matey? i got it sorted. I'll try to find the link on lunch. good luck man hope all sorted!
John *******
@Phil **********
I have spoke to a well know lawyer he stated its not 400k coming in but the tax code for that money maybe he wrong which would be surprising not really matters now unlimited border crossing now.

Ha ha .. the news in the land of 💵 ☺'s. Travels like an idle echo , but the clues are 🇹🇭 actions .. the new visa rues translate WELCOME🗼🗺 🌐 falangs .. so makes sense not to enforce 2 times only via border & probably no restrictions by air ..
Pete ********
Yeah but they are all different .
Vic *********
Yeah, until you get there the second time and try to tell 'that' officer what the 'other' officer said.
Daniel *******
In your case, this is absolutely correct 👍🏽. Everyone else may feel free to disregard it..

Doesn't matter what the agent says..

The only thing that does matter is what the immigration officer says when you dealing with him at the border.
Brenton ******
Belinda ******
I’m sure it’s unlimited by air in one year
Jay *******
Youtuber already made a video about this with a Thai lawyer. You can do two border runs by land and two by air meaning you have to fly in and this is only if you're using the free 60 day visa and getting a 30 day extension for 90 days total. 90 days, leave come back on foot twice, and then leave and come back by air twice. The only applies to the free 60 day tourist visa you get when you arrive.
Jason ***********
What the heck is a border run by ground?
Mike ********
Second one you have too stay 2 nights and fly back
JP *******
Straight from “a” border agent.

Dude… Thailand is not black/white. More like shades of gray or green$
Neil *********
More to follow from a bar near you where millionaire ex sas men drink
Angelo ***********
Yeah and the agent is wrong, that rule was dropped 15th of June ...
Hugh ***********
But I thought you had to have proof of exit date on 60 day visitors pass ( not visa) flight details.
Bob ********
border runs are so 3rd world. they dont want you there. take the hint.
Chris ******
They do not want us 😂
Donny *****
I did my 3rd one this year and was informed a 4th is permitted
Terary **********
Sometimes different borders say different things. I once hired an agent to take me for a border bounce and on the return the told me which agents not to use.. So I am pretty sure different border agents do things differently.

Which border did the border agent tell you?
Keil ******

Terary **********
@Keil *****
I think they're refereed to as "Developing Country" or "Developing Economy". I think "third world" are more about peoples that are in a bad situation getting worse... Somalia for example (Or the US if you pay attention to US politics).

ask 10 boarder agents, and you'll get at least 10 different answers. There's no legal limit, entirely up to the boarder agent standing in front of you.... hope he's not just had a fight with his wife or boss "or both". post is just more fake news
Chrisna **********
Just get the correct long term LIVE here visa and no need for those.

Steven ***************
Go to any imm office here and ask 3 people the same question. The chances of getting 3 identical answers is ZERO.

Return a week later and ask the same 3 people the same question and the chances of the answers being the same as last week is ZERO..
Martin *********
Take a look at this. The first part is obviously out of date. It’s six times per year by flight but only twice a year by overland crossing.
Todd *********
@Martin ********
year after year people oddly post this incorrect snippet from then London embassy. Whom have nothing whatsoever to do with border enforcement 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
David ********
@Martin ********
is like 1 year old that's why this site is getting out of control so much outdated info from arm chair experts
Martin *********
@David *******
it’s currently-(at least a few months ago when I checked,) showing up on the Thai London Embassy website.
Todd *********
@Martin ********
it wasn’t correct. Ever
Brandon ************
@Martin ********
The Thai embassy in London does not get to make rules for Thailand. There are 2 embassies that have posted this incorrect information on their websites. Embassies are under the MFA and have nothing to do with entering Thailand or making rules to enter Thailand. That's the immigration department under the Department of the Interior.
Pat *******
It is up to immigration person

It changes. So just be prepared

Frankly air tickets are often cheap enough to not worry about land ones unless close to a la d border.

Make a small holiday of it. Visit another country .

This is the Europe of Asia

Lots of choice so close
Kevin ***********
So much negativity from all these so called experts if the guy was told that just accept it and less of the snarky comments, this is a group chat for useful information not useless quips from all you big know it alls. Spending too much time on here rather than out enjoying yourselves
William *************
Frank **********
"Allowable number of border runs" is determined by the IO, the border, your nationality, current general feelings of the media and social channels, and possibly the weather. That one guy you talked to at that one border that one day may not be reflective of the experiences of others.
Marc *******
I got grilled at swampi for 1 VISA run in 2 years so......

Stefanie *********
I was told the same thing. He also wrote "2" and circled it over my stamp.

But at the end… it will always be the decision of the immigration officer if you get in or not.

because the border agents tend to ignore the policies they are paid to enforce? Doesn’t work that way.

Unlimited now until they deny you
David ***********
Every agent will see it differently. If you are using 60+30 day entries, they may stop you when they see you are not a tourist. I was on a visa and when it expired I came in on the 60 day entry but warned not to do it again. And that was at Suv airport.
Craig *******
@David **********
I just got an extension(30 day) on a 60 day entry. They laid down the law in the office though and said no more extensions. They did not say that I couldnt come back in on a 60. What is your opinion ? Will they let me in on the 60 day visa exempt again ,
David ***********
@Craig ******
. A 2nd 60 day should be fine. They questioned me because I previously had a 12 month visa so clearly not a tourist
Kace *******
@David **********
i hope you’re correct regarding a second 60 day entry . i want to save enough money in my bank before i get a few medical procedures done in bangkok.

I don't think 3 years is correct. And can you speak and read Thai fluently? Been paying taxes? Earn enough money IN Thailand to meet the rules?

Folks: it ain't that easy. This comment verges on misinformation.

yes I have read law.

I have a bridge over the border you can buy so you can post your own agent and cross as many times as you want.

Bro, some agents have told me that I can only have 60 days visa exemption even though I tell them I have a Chilean passport (we and 3 more countries have 90 days visa exemption).

They don't know too much about many things visa/immigration related.
Aaron ******
@Gian ******
do you get to extend another 30 days as well?

no extension, but can do border runs and reset my 90 days again on every entrance

The border agent will probably discover the actual guidelines from Facebook.
Ajané **********
Just recently came back from a border run (second one) and the immigration officers were very excited to let us know there was no longer a 2x limit. Not saying that border runs should be a long term solution, or that everyone should try their luck.. but this was my experience

of course. There is no chance to take. You are allowed. Same for me, don’t need to, but would have no concerns

@Greg ********
It's straight from both immigration and MFA that the 2 limit is gone as of July 15th when the new visa exempt was introduced. So yes I'd be willing to take that chance.
