TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a retirement visa (NON-O or NON-O-A) in Thailand, the general financial requirements are either a minimum income of 65,000 baht per month, a lump sum of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account, or a combination of both. The 800,000 baht must be in a Thai bank account if applying for the visa within Thailand, whereas if you apply for the NON-O-A visa from a Thai consulate in the USA, you can show the funds in a US account. Additionally, applicants must be over 50 years old.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

Actually though the requirements for banked money don't vary whether you get the Non-O and then an extension inside the country OR if you get a Non-O-A outside the country before you come here.

The amount is 800K baht or the equivalent.

The only difference is when you get an O-A visa in your country from the thai consulate you can show the money in an account there where as when you go the in country route using banked money it has to be in a thai bank account.

, FIRST you're going to have to decide if you're getting the "retirement visa" in the USA from a thai consulate BEFORE you wing your way here OR if you're going to come here and then go thru the steps to get it inside the country.

IF you're getting it in the USA before you come, you can bank the money in an account in the US to meet the financial requirements. The consulates that issue the visa you want are Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington DC. You will need a police back ground check and a medical certificate.

Check the website of the consulate you are going to apply at.

That Non-O-A visa is definitely the way to go if you can get it before you come here

I didnt realize JP was free, my bad, anyway i paid 150 a set of documents at a NP in Perth, 4 sets were made, (3 for consulate and 1 for me which i still have) so 600 all up.

When did that change, not that it makes a lot of difference except financial, may be cheaper through JP. I did mine in Jan through a NP, was no hassle.

And the Multiple entry non immigrant OA applied for in your own country has the advantages of giving you two years out of that visa if you exit to, for example, a neighbouring country and come back in just prior to your first year in Thailand ending. This allows you to leave your funds in your own country working for you for up to two years without having to show proof of income for the second year

Bangkok Bank NY does however act as a routing conduit from other American Banks to Bangkok Bank accounts in Thailand

, that's great! Thank you.

Martin Howarth - Glad to hear about the London BB routing connection. Readers should note that this is not a 'Wire' or Swift code funds transfer. In America it is considered a 'domestic' transfer using the ACH Automated Clearing House process. BB New York is a Thai Bank of course but also a U.S. Federally Chartered Bank.

Yes I do this every month , I transfer in London from my uk accounts to BKK bank in London to then it automatically transfers to my BKK bank in Pattaya , 24hours ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Bangkok Bank New York is a Commercial Bank. We cannot have personal accounts at BBNY

You cannot open a personal account at Babgkok Bank New York. BBNY is a Commercial Bank only. BBNY does provide routing from other American Banks to Bangkok Bank Accounts inside Thailand.

Next and related question: Can we have funds in the Bangkok Bank in New York, or does it have to physically be in the country?
Steve *******
It depends where you are applying for the Non imm O or OA visa based on being over 50 years old. It's generally an income of a minimum of 65,000bt per month, a lump sum of 800,000bt or a combination of the two
