Just thinking in a possible future, right now, the retirement VISA needs a monthly income or you just can put a big amount of money in a Thai bank instead of that? or maybe a mix of both? Many people in just their 50s dont have a monthly pension yet ... so how to apply for that VISA if you dont have that kind of monthly income yet ...

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a retirement visa in Thailand without a monthly income, you have three options to meet the financial requirements: 1) Maintain 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to application, 2) Provide an affidavit from your consulate verifying a monthly income of at least 65,000 baht, or 3) Use a combination of the bank funds and the consulate letter to demonstrate financial stability. It is crucial to communicate with the relevant consulate for documentation requirements, as these may vary.

, yep, pretty much every consulate here in thailand offers that affidavit of income letter.

Be advised the UK consulate and the Canadian consulate require proof of the amount you are claiming as income and they write the letter for you.

if they ever streamlined all of this in the name of efficiency and effectiveness, can you imagine the cut backs in the bureaucracy...... ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜ฏ

yep, you get a brand new notarized document from your consulate every year for your extension. :)

will they accept affidavit from consulates other than USA? In my case Canada. Is a new affidavit required annually?

Okay, there're just three ways to go about meeting the financial requirements

1 - bank 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for the requisite amount of time before you apply for your yearly extension

2 - use the affidavit of income from abroad notary from your consulate stating you get 65K baht a month in income

3 - use a combination of seasoned money in the bank and the consulate notary letter that totals more than 800K for the year.

The way you demonstrate to immigration's that you have a monthly income is to get the notary letter from your consulate here. There's no need to transfer money from your overseas bank to your thai bank to show some income stream.

I mean, maybe you dont really have monthly income but enough money to "create" monthly incomes from your bank to your thai bank ... that should be enough, but you can only do that when you already got the retirement visa, so not sure how to demonstrate to thai migration that you will "create" that monthly income ...

But you have to demonstrate first that you are gonna have that monthly income or, for example, you just can make monthly bank transfers from your own country to your thai bank?

I laughed with her, after 10 years of extensions i was pretty sure what they needed, so I asked her if she go give me a 10 years extension if i was right ... some other officer finnished my case. It wasn't the first time they act like that over there, few years back, after a new visa, they go come for a house visit, they called me an hour before saying that they come with 3 officers, using their private car, if i would be so friendly to prepare 3 envelopes with some 'gas money'

@Pas***
, for extensions based on marriage it's either 40K baht a month in income by using the consulate notary letter or 400K baht banked in an account for 2 months prior to you applying.

If they wanted something else you should have complained. :/

In kanchanaburi immigration, they want the affidavit from the embassy stating that you have the monthly income and a statement from the bank from the last three months. When i did my last extension they even ignored my whole file, saying that i need the letter from the bank saying that i have 400,000 on my account. Always something on immigration in kanchanaburi

You need your income notarized by your embassy. Some want proof, ie UK. Some take your word for it, ie US

You're right, lump sum 800,000bt or monthly income of not less than 65,000bt or a combination of the two. The income doesnt have to be from a pension.
