TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shared their experience of moving from Chonburi to Udon Thani and being fined 2800 baht for not reporting their change of address to the local immigration office. Other expats commented, confirming that such a fine seemed unusual as they believed notifying the new immigration office should suffice, and that Chonburi immigration is not typically informed when leaving a province. The discussion highlighted the importance of informing the immigration office of a change in residence within 24 hours to avoid penalties.

we have to report right away if we move not 2-3 days

@Chan *****
It's an easy procedure in Chiang Mai. Worth not being fined.

Sounds like a nightmare. Is it really worth it?

, you didn't need blue book to report to the immigration office that you live there.

You can't even be listed in the blue book anyway.

You could have shown up at the immigration office and filed a TM.28 change of address and immediately after that a TM.30 alien in residence form.

every day a different pay day..always expect the unexpected

I have no idea how they can fine you in that case. I've never heard of needing too notify the immigration office in the province you are leaving that you won't be residing in that province any longer. Saying that though, nothing surprises me anymore.

Yes ron

That's a new one on me. I also made the same move from Pattaya to Udon 3 years ago and I didn't get any fines when I've been in immigration. I've been several times for extensions etc. Nothing was said.

@Phil *****
I did do once as I come and go all the time. However Udon do not seem to be to fussy with this requirement

Steven ***********
Yeah Udon have always been very pleasant to deal with when I've been there. Also not too busy most if the time.

This was yesterday, maybe something changed. I expected to pay something but not a fine. I have to say they were very nice in there but i was not amused
Robert *******
And the reason you got fined was?

hotels automatically report for you. the amount i guess depends on the duration you have been at the new location without reporting
Antonis ***********
Sorry for asking but I not understand. If you go from your permanent address for a 5 days vacation and you stay in a hotel you must do something or hotel do for you?

And if not hotel what we must do alone?

And something more. I told you before I pay 800 because home owner not do.

Why you say you pay 2800?

thanks tod. All done now so no worries.

@Tod ********
Sorry if you were in bangkok, you would only need the TM 28 right?
Tod *********
@Russ ********
you are NOT obligated to inform your old immigration office that you moved. you are obligated to inform the new immigration office that you moved to their area within 24 hours of you showing up there. You would have had to file a TM.28 change of address AND a TM.30 alien in residence
