Hi, I am visiting Thailand the first week of November to meet my girlfriend for the first time, we will be travelling around Thailand sight seeing. Can anyone tell me what my best visa options are, bearing in mind I may want to stay longer than the 45 days visa exempt.

I have read other comments about OA Visa and a Non-0 90 day visa but don’t understand what it means.

Should I apply for my Visa from The Royal Thai Embassy, Queens Gate, London. Thanks…

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking advice on the best visa options for their upcoming trip to Thailand, where they intend to meet their girlfriend and travel around the country. They have read about the OA and NON-O visas but are unclear about their meanings. Community members suggest that for stays beyond 45 days, the poster can enter Thailand on a visa exempt basis for 45 days and apply for a 30-day extension. Additionally, they can re-enter Thailand after a brief exit to receive another visa exempt stamp, effectively allowing for up to 150 days stay. They are also informed about the possibility of applying for various long-term visa options while in Thailand.

This turned in to a train wreck really fast 😕 and it is exactly WHY the group doesn't allow posts that are related to "visa fishing" <- asking what visa you should get for xxx reason. 🙁
@ Trevor *****
on you have more than a few suggestions, figure it out..

Good luck to you and your upcoming trip to thailand (y)

Follow the KISS adage, Keep It Super Simple

Come in after Oct 1st get the 45 day visa exempt entry, take the 30 day extension,

bounce out and in at a land border, get another 45 day visa exempt entry, take the 30 day extension and during that time LOOK for other long term visa options.

Sheesh that's 150 days and if you can't figure out a long term stay plan in that length of time you have issues 😮

Hi Trevor, the non OA visa is if you apply from the UK, the non O is if you apply within Thailand for reasons like retirement. If you apply for a tourist visa in the UK this gives you an initial 60 days and you can extend for 30 days easily.

, a bit of correction. Non-O single entry visa based on retirement (you will be stamped for 90 days) is also available in your home country.

Thank you James, when you say arrive in Thailand on a visa exempt, do I have to apply for this?

@Trevor *******
you don’t have to apply for a visa exempt. You do have to apply for the extension.

Thank you Randy, so I can enter Thailand for up to 45 days just with my British passport?

@Trevor *******
yes, you’re able to just land and get the 45 day visa exempt with a British passport. No need to apply for this.

Suggest you forget about getting a Thai Visa from the UK Thai Embassy.

Keep it Simple....

Arrive into Thailand VISA EXEMPT which gives you 45 days stamp on arrival plus One 30 days extension of stay available for 1900 Thai baht from your local Thai immigration office.

That gives you 75 days stay in Thailand.

Beyond that...you can do a simple land border crossing and re-enter Thailand with your getting another 45 day stamp and one added 30 day extension...

That can be done for TWO times in a calendar year.

If you choose to stay longer... there are several Visa options to explore when you get into Thailand...

Including retirement or marriage to a Thai.

Good Luck 🤞

@Nongnuch *******
Sorry that happened NOT TRUE !

If you need more than 75 days you will need to apply for a visa before you arrive to Thailand. You’re able to apply for an extension of 30 days once you’re here on the 45 day visa exempt stamp.
