TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering relocating to Thailand with a Thai wife and a 7-year-old son, both holding UK-Thai joint passports. They seek information on the best visa option that allows for minimal hassle, as they plan frequent travel between Thailand and the UK for business. Community responses suggest obtaining a NON-O visa for extended stays and mention that it is possible to open a bank account with a tourist visa, though it may require an immigration letter. An alternative mentioned is the Elite Visa, which offers more convenience but at a higher cost.

I opened bank account on tourist visa but I had to get a letter from immigration first
At Bangkok bank they asked for 3500 baht insurance to open but I said no so they offered one for 1200 which 500 went into account but then they took off 300 baht for a years fees or the card so it cost 1000
You’ll need to try various branches and hopefully find one that’ll let you. Failing that join a local FB group in the area you live and put a shout out for an agent to help. Guesstimate 2-5k but they’ll get one for sure.
Depends how long you plan to stay in Thailand each time. Currently you’d get 45 days with no visa. That’s set to revert back to 30 at the end of March.
Alternatively you can apply for a non O visa either in UK or in Thailand and then get a year extension. With a multiple reentry permit you could then come and go as you pleased.
