What visa options do I have for extended stays in Thailand after multiple entries and stamps in my passport?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I have visited Thailand for many years, usually for just 3 weeks at a time. When I retired from work in 2015 I also got a new passport. Since then I have spent 3-4 months every UK winter in Thailand. I have returned to the UK for Christmas and left Thailand on occasions to travel to other Asian countries. I did use 30 days exempt but also 60 days single entry and the old 3 entry’s visa.

I have never overstayed, I am a genuine tourist, no Thai bank account, property, criminal conviction etc.

I had a good job in the UK so have a good pension and savings. Last time I visited Thailand in March this year, after returning there from eight days in Burma (by plane to Chiangmai) I spent two hours with immigration. They clearly didn’t like the number of stamps in my passport, and they told me I must get a visa in my own country next time.

I want to return this year in October for five weeks, then return home for Christmas, then back in January - February time for eight weeks, possibly more.

I’ve spent quite a lot of time reading posts on this forum and others, but advice does vary.

I would just like to get advice as to the best way to do this, so I don’t get refused. Obviously I can’t do the 30 days again.

I would really appreciate any advice anyone can provide.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has frequently visited Thailand for extended periods since retirement, using various visa types and staying for several months during the winter. Recent interactions with immigration raised concerns about the number of entries in their passport, and the user seeks advice on the best visa options for their upcoming trips to avoid any issues, especially as they cannot use the 30-day exemption again.
