Chulia Mansion is brilliant and right near Jim's Place so you can use him to do it for you. If you absolutely want to do it yourself, book a Grab car, it's not a costly ride.

Place yourself around chulia, the area around the consulate is more expensive and use Grab to move around, from Chulia to the consulate is like 7-8rm one way, many times promos in grab for 5rm off per trip.

Pfff one more people on thiny budget that wanna go in thailand, he do not think that if he get sick or have accident (this never happen!) he wont have money to pay the expenses, this contribute to raise a bad "image" to those that can afford a bad situation. QED

Wow, this guy is pretentious and assumptive as hell. Malcolm was only asking for a decent hotel that is fairly priced, which I think most people in this group can relate too. Doesn't mean he is beg packing or bad at all. You sir, are giving bad impressions not us lol

If you can't give an answer please keep your comments to yourself, I expect I could buy you ten time over

You got all this from someone asking for an inexpensive hotel in Penang convenient to the consulate?

Many people are staying around Chulia street and using agents, taking taxi (which is expensive than Bangkok) or "bus and walk" ( which take some time to get Thai consulate). If you want to go to Thai consulate by bus and/or walk, you may want to staying hotel or guesthouse at Kelawai street/ Burma street / Lebuhraya street.

Chulia street is more "lively" at night for sure, just for your information.

Sorry for not exact recommendation....

IF they know where to go..!

Using grab from Chulia to the consulate is not more than 7-8rm.
