What are my options for renewing a Non-O Retirement Visa in Thailand if I need to travel in early September?

Non-O Retirement Visa Renewal - my existing 12 mth extension runs out on 17 October 23. I have read that Pattaya Imigration will only extend it for another year in the last 30 days before expiry - ie after 17 September. However, I need to make a trip for Europe in first week of September and may not be back by 17 October.

Any suggestions?

TLDR : Answer Summary

I was under the impression that technically an extension of permission to stay, does not get extended or renewed but has to be applied for every year.

No doubt somebody can confirm or otherwise.

It seems anything is possible through an agent! Its not something I feel comfortable with.

anything is possible. Why uncomfortable with an agent? Fantastic time and money savers. Find one you are comfortable with

They certainly are time savers Todd, not sure I'd agree about the money saver bit. Generally, I like to comply with the spirit of the rules especially with Immigration stuff - otherwise you never know when it might bite you in the behind! Compared to many embassies round the world - The British, Indian and French ones in particular! - the Thai one at Jomtien is not so bad.

fair enough. I personally don’t presume myself to know better than the many reputable agencies in business here for over 20 years. I’m happy to turn it over to the experts. And I let Thai people handle their national ethics without thinking I should impose my own country’s. Im Canadian and we have more than enough ethical challenges of our own.

The simple logic for the money aspect is that if you can leave 800k at home at 5% or better that’s at least 40k baht in annual interest. More than covers the 16k cost of an agent. And leaves me with 24k in my pocket. If I go and waste a day or two of my life at immigration, I’m out 1900 baht for the same thing. I prefer the 24k in my pocket 🤷‍♂️

I get the numbers Todd but the law requires 800k in the bank - there is also the Thai Baht depreciation which makes your agrument stronger. So far my only experience was getting the first 12 month Non O after arriving on a 3 month Non O (obtained online) in the UK. I went a couple of hours before closing - they wanted a couple of extra photocopies - and asked me to come and collect the passport the next day. But then I had read this great forum and put my stuff together. As a newbie one doesnt really know who is a good agent and who is not till perhaps its too late. I did pop in the visa shop that is inside the immigration campus - their fees were eye watering.

Was there yesterday and ask at counter 8 when we can do our extension. We were told 40 days in advance. Or 45 days with an air ticket/flight. We had also thought 30 days. You should go and verify though.

Go to immigration and explain/ask. If they say no, agent can arrange for you

You can renew retirement visa 3 months early anyway

I did it in January and they put 15 months on my visa

Go to immigration and ask if you can extend early. I did it in Jontiem and a month cost me 8,000 baht tip

Extension of Non -O Retirement takes 2 days in Pattaya, just extend before you need to make a trip, and go where you like! After getting a re-entry of course.

are you Russian?

for me it’s a difficult question. I was born in Moscow, grew up Michigan, spent early adulthood in Stockholm and here almost 10 years. By birth I’m Russian but really not sure lol. World person.

Thanks for this. Would a TM30 from a Bankok hotel be ok?

@London ****
Possibly, although immigration might want to see either a lease, or a copy of the house owners credentials
