Hi guys, I have a non-O retirement visa that expires on July 17. I urgently need to leave Thailand for three months. Can I apply for a new visa now or should I wait for the old one to expire? Samui Immigration

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of applying for a new Non-O retirement visa while their current visa, expiring on July 17, is still valid and they plan to leave Thailand for three months. Community responses suggest that they should apply for the one-year extension of stay for retirees as soon as possible. However, since the application can only start no earlier than 45 days prior to expiration, they may need to prove their upcoming departure to the immigration office if they try early. If unsuccessful, they could be required to begin a new application from scratch.

If you still have the 800k banked (or your country does the income affadavit) you can either leave and apply for a new Non-O before returning or returning and starting the Non-O in country.

It could be a bit early.

4th June is the earliest you can go to samui office. if Samui doesn’t accept your application with 45 days early (means their application window policy is within the last 30 days) you can try to ask with proof of fixed air ticket that can exactly show that you are out of Thailand during application window.

The worst case is they say no, it’s too early. In that case you have to apply for the initial Non-O from scratch.

Would the new extension, let's assume 45 days prior is accepted, start from the end of the previous allowed to stay date or from the day the application is approved. Just trying of understand if you would lose time for applying much earlier.

, an extension is added (top up) to your current stay as long as it’s for the same reason as the current stay stamp. You wouldn’t lose any days by applying for the next extension earlier. All following yearly extensions have same expire date of each year if you stay on the same reason.

IF you apply for an extension for a different reason from your current extension, it’s start on the day of application in most cases.

Apply for your One year extension of stay as retired ASAP as
@Ellie ******
posted June 4 is the earliest.

IF you wait , you will have to START ALL OVER.

Go to your local Thai Immigration office on Tuesday and ask them for their list for your one year extension of stay as retired.

Thai Immigration offices are CLOSED on Monday June 3.

The graphic below is the common found requirements for the one year extension of stay as retired.

Be sure you have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration.
