Hello, any advice welcome please.

Currently hold OA visa - originally obtained in Australia and extended multiple times at CW.

Meet all requirements for OA extension eg money & health insurance.

Have multiple re-entry permit.

Visa is due for renewal July 21.

I am leaving Thailand for Europe on June 03 and not returning until approximately October.

My preference is to renew this visa prior to departure- but this may not be possible.

1. How far in advance can I renew this visa?

2. What are my options if I can’t renew in advance?

3. Is it possible to return on a tourist visa and switch to a O.

Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster holds an OA visa and is seeking advice on renewing it before departing Thailand for Europe. They meet the renewal requirements and have multiple re-entry permits but are unsure about the timing and options for renewal given their travel plans. Key questions include how far in advance they can renew, what to do if they can't renew in advance, and the possibility of returning on a tourist visa and switching to a Non-O visa.

Ask your local Thai Immigration office... As many will allow you to get the one year extension of stay up to 45 days prior to its expiration date. And even a little more time in advance with PROOF of your needing to depart Thailand. Solely at the discretion of the Thai Immigration office.

IF you do get the OA extension of stay for one year before you leave Thailand, be sure to buy a re-entry permit to re-enter Thailand with.

Be sure to have the OA health insurance required for your one year extension of stay. The new amount of insurance required is US$100,000 or 3 MILLION Thai baht.

And Yes, if you chose not to extend it before you leave, you can enter Thailand Visa EXEMPT and get either a 45 or 30 day stamp on arrival... Plus one 30 day extension of stay at Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

Followed by the Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay at your local Thai immigration office.

Many thanks for your reply.

Does changing from OA to O require anything addition to what I already have? eg medical or police check

if you get OFF the OA extension, (come in visa exempt and apply for the in country Non-O visa when you come back) you don't need medical certificate, proof of insurance or a background check <- those are requirements of the OA visa/extension not of the regular Non-O

If you're in Bangkok you can renew 45 days in advance so very close. I'd have thought if you are able to show your flight out then a few days earlier than that would be acceptable.
