Like you have stated, people have different reasons for staying in Thailand . My husband worked here and we have now retired here so my daughter grew up here since she was 7. But now she is too old for a dependency visa the only way to stay is with tourist visas. She has an MET at the moment and was supposed to do a border bounce on 29th March but borders closed so went to immigration and they gave her 30 days which lasts till 29th April . Her MET expired April 11. She has the embassy letter which I didn’t need to use last time . I was thinking she should go to immigration next week to extend 30 days with letter rather than wait to see about amnesty . Would that work ? Please don’t tell her to get out of the country and go home because this is her home and to go back to Uk she would have to live with 89year old grandad which is a risk .So it’s safer to stay here with parents I think .

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's daughter is in Thailand on a 30-day extension that lasts until April 29, but her MET visa expired on April 11. There are suggestions from the community regarding her options for extending her stay, including the possibility of enrolling in an education program for an education visa, but it is also noted that the blanket amnesty for foreign residents remains in effect until the end of April, which may provide additional options.

Good luck to the OP.

Realistically her daughter needs to enroll in a four year university program for Bachelor's Degree if she is to stay long term in Thailand.

Or buy her a Thai Elite Visa 500,000 Thai baht gives her 5 years stay with you here in Thailand.

Other than that... Limited stay opportunities exist at this time.

Watch the news and this forum.

Good luck..

This is an advice group. No one is going to tell her to get out of the country, but you also have to be realistic and realise that her opportunities to stay are getting smaller. Perhaps explore the ED visa route, and in the meantime start thinking about the future, rather than adopting the "cross that bridge when we get to it" approach.

The problem is, there is no future right now. Let's say the OP's daughter gets an ED visa. How can she get an ED visa. First, she'd (probably) have to leave Thailand to go to a Thai consulate that can sell her a visa. The only country that she can go to is back home.

Once she gets the ED visa, how can she get back into Thailand? She can't, without a Thai passport (which she doesn't have).

My advice right now is just to let the clock tick down until late April.

she had a valid METV <- that visa was unlimited entry :/ and you're telling me at the beginning of March she didn't see this shit-storm on the horizon and bounce out and back one more time to get a NEW 60 day entry stamp, but instead just ran her stamp down that expired at the end of march and took a 30 day extension at the immigration office instead?

if she's too old for a dependency visa that means she's over 20, SO she could enroll in a real university program for a real; seeing as most of them CAN get in country ED visas issued (as long as they person is not on overstay)

enrole her in a school and get an eduction visa?

all schools are closed now. Logically, they can not give visa documents.

For her to get any visa she'd have to leave Thailand and return. She can not return to Thailand if she leaves.

Let's cut the fat:

>Her MET expired April 11

She's covered by the amnesty program until April 30th.

> was thinking she should go to immigration next week to extend 30 days with letter rather than wait to see about amnesty . Would that work ?

No. The Extension of stay based on the COVID-19 virus no longer exists, and was replaced by a blanket amnesty.

Keep watching this group, and the newspapers, and wait until late April.

she's automatically ON the amnesty until the 30th, AND more than a few immigration offices won't even issue the "unable to travel due to covid-19" extension anymore.

I'd say have her sit tight and wait until the government announces what will happen after the 30th
