TLDR : Answer Summary
An individual from the UK is applying for a DTV and is unsure whether to write "United Kingdom" or "HMPO" (Her Majesty's Passport Office) as the place of issue on their application form. Commenters suggest using "HMPO," as it's the authority that issues UK passports, and share their recent experiences with ensuring acceptance of this information on similar applications.
Anonymous participant I get that but lots of people having denied applications from different countries for this question so I want someone who has done the visa and been approved recently to answer.

Anonymous participant no, I don't have a DTV but it is the Issuing Authority

Good question. I put HMPO on the form internally at an Immigration Office just 2 weeks ago. However, with the DTV best to double check as some rejections in neighbouring countries due to this field.

Anonymous participant Double check as I said. All UK passports are HMPO now are they not? It's been over 20 years since I renewed while in UK.
I remember when Embassies could issue their own. I got one in Brussels and one in Singapore. It said FCO. Previously to that I think it said the office ie Glasgow, Durham etc
100% ot was cost cutting. It also moves the budget from FCO elsewhere. I also heard VFA were not the cheapest last time at contract renewal but as incumbents they got it. They do not seem to have a fan club anywhere though.
