I asked if he would inform government that I was now living there. He said yes but did not offer to provide me with proof . Should I receive something back from him ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
After signing a lease on an apartment in Thailand, it is advisable to receive a Notification of Stay from your landlord. If the landlord files the TM.30 form using the online system, there may not be a printed confirmation, but ideally, you should get a printout or a receipt if filed in person. If you don’t receive any confirmation, it may be necessary for you to visit immigration with your lease copy to ensure proper registration.

Thanks , I suspect the guy will do nothing and I will have to go to immigration with my copy of lease . Not the most friendly guy .
then as long as you go the first day they're open for business you'll be fine. If the immigration office is closed (weekends and holidays) there is no penalty.

remember you need to do it within 24 hours of taking up residence in that immigration area or you'll pull a failure to file on time fine of 1600baht (usually).

IF that landlord or leasing company uses the online notification program there is no confirmation they can print. Instead they have to do a print screen,. BUT if they go file the TM.30 in person you get a receipt like this
