What issues have expats faced with North Chiang Mai University and their ED visas?

Jul 15, 2025
3 days ago
Anyone else had problems with NCU (north Chiang Mai university)? I was on a year ED visa with them and was planning on getting on the DTV next.

Well upon asking for a visa cancellation letter to exit the country before the end of the ED visa, I learnt that my visa was cancelled over 3 months ago. Apparently they cancelled 1000 students visas at the time. Didn’t bother to inform anyone. This is totally absurd, but I find myself illegal now, and most likely blacklisted.

If you had similar experience or know somone, please contact me. And if your planning on taking classes with that school please don’t.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reports problems with North Chiang Mai University (NCU) regarding their ED visa, which was canceled without notification, leaving them in a state of illegality in Thailand. They are seeking experiences from others in similar situations or advice on how to proceed. Comments reveal that many have faced issues with NCU, including the cancellation of multiple student visas without prior notice, exacerbating concerns about immigration regulations and the risks of being blacklisted.

We're u attending school?

I attended Ed Visa Thai classes through NCU and didn't have a problem bc I did attend. Every class the teacher was very clear about the attendance and passing policies. Those who didn't go to the class or logged in with a personal email instead of the NCU assigned email would not meet the requirements. Even 6 months+ into the class she was still explaining this and there were still dodo birds logging in wrong or not showing up and doing the work.

The only thing I had problems with was communicating with the school to request a visa cancellation letter when my visa end date was near. It took nearly 3 weeks just to finally get hold of someone and then a lot of run around after that to finally get the cxl letter the same week I was leaving. Mainly bc their contact forms and emails don't seem to work or aren't being checked and followed up on.

I think ED Visa was from elite international concierge. Now they offer DTV Visa with incorrect application documents in Phnom Pen Cambodia

Hello. Can I ask which agency you used please? Thank you

That's the problem with not fulfilling your visa requirements by skipping classes… You're certainly not the only one, but there are profiles far worse than yours exploiting the exact same loophole and that’s probably what cost you your visa. No matter what people like to say, there always comes a time when immigration cracks down on visas that are too easy to get and widely abused. With that in mind, I really hope they tighten the DTV requirements, because unfortunately, the kind of people abusing the system now have an even easier way to stay in Thailand... And that will impact actual holders.

But you have a stamp in your passport. Shouldn’t that be fine then? wouldnt an auto-gate exit work? or just a land crossing?

unfortunately I’m already on the blacklisted

Anonymer Teilnehmer how do you know?

@Dany *******
he learned he was on OVERSTAY 90 days or More...= One year Ban from Thailand.

@James *******
wouldnt the stamp in your passport indicate the day when you have to leave? if you were not informed by the school that they canceled your visa? i mean the stamp remains and they didnt change anything in your passport. or will they automatically flag you because visa in system doesnt line up with your stamp anymore?
Toni *******
@Dany *******
my ED visa was extended every 3 months, the stamp wasnt 1year. That was at pattaya 2years ago
Dany ********
@Toni ******
your ED with a private school is 3 months and can be extended 3 times. yes correct. but you have a stamp in your passport and you would not overstay that stamp and just get the extension. how could you even overstay and think everything is fine? doesnt make sense as you would allways need a new stamp. i guess in OPs case the university canceled the visa but didnt inform him. the stamp in his passport was still valid. so the question remains: how does he know he is blacklisted?

and btw: university ED is a different ED. for the university ED you get a 1 year extension or more stamp. dont know the exact details but its different. its also multiple entry
James ********
@Dany *******
Yes, that's an interesting question ❓ I don't think the OP has told us the full story. How does he know that he's on OVERSTAY and blacklisted?

So you get Ed visa but didn't attend? And you didn't noticed for 3 months? I'm sorry but...

Because this kind of people is why the others are fckd.

To maintain an ED visa you must honour the terms of the visa. If you didn't its right that it was cancelled

this is my third ED visa. I have an agent that takes care of it. The first year I attended the school, but the level was so bad that I got my own teacher and was told I didn’t needed to attend the classes of the school. Most people on ED are not attending anything, for the record. This year I didn’t even know if they had classes. It was understood it’s only a visa business. Again, like most ED visas. Before you all get righous here, this is how it works in Thailand for the most part. And this is probably why you yourself are enjoying yourself here. We all love freedom and flexibility.

My outrage and warning here is about canceling visas without notifying students, or agencies. That’s just crazy. And although they can legally, it’s pretty dark. It would’ve cost nothing to send a warning, then a notice.

I’m now having a little life built here ripped from me because of it.

Anonymous participant that's why sticking to agents is never a good idea unless for non b maybe
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant Unfortunately, you knew exactly what you were doing. You used an agent to obtain a visa you weren’t entitled to and showed no intention of attending classes.
John **********
Anonymous participant there you go. You paid a dodgy agent to obtain a dodgy visa for you and now you're all up in arms? If you had obtained the visa legally and were using it for its intended purpose you would have no problems. Entirely your own fault and sounds like you have been illegal from the outset.
James ********
Anonymous participant Pardon me but you got exactly what you deserved. As others who have played the Ed Visa game to stay and live in Thailand. IF you have been on OVERSTAY 90 days or more you will pay a fine of 20,000 Thai baht and a One year Ban from Thailand.

"If you report your overstay voluntarily to Thai immigration before leaving Thailand, you'll be met with these penalties: Less than 90 days: 500 baht per day (up to 20,000 baht). More than 90 days: Temporary ban from Thailand for up to 1 year and a 20,000 baht overstay fine."

Anonymous participant you tried to scam the system and got caught. Say by by to Thailand for a few years.

Anonymous participant so you were building a life on foundations you knew contravened the visa requirements. You knew the school didn’t have classes and was only “a visa business”. I am not surprised your foundation was taken away.

Were you attending your classes regularly? If not, they have to cancel it.

yep they have definitely made the move to cancel 1000 student visas in an effort against being screwed by immigration for other illicit activities. It’s just crazy they didn’t notified anyone.
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant it's crazy that you never attended
Anonymous ******************
Maybe your visa was cancelled for being absent a lot in online class?

My friend was also a NCU student. He attended classes regularly. His visa wasn't cancelled when he went for cancellation before leaving the country.

Anyways, his DTV was rejected in Cambodia. Possibly the influence of NCU ED visa.

Right now, u might need to check if you are overstaying for a long time, to pay fines, etc.

That could also affect DTV success.
Anonymous ******************
You're not alone! My partner's ED visa supposedly was to be registered with one gym.

His visa got canceled and we just knew 2 weeks after they canceled it

but that was also the first time we knew his visa has been registered with that uni for thai class instead of muay thai class and he was overstaying for almost half a month....

The gym told us that he has to do boarder run and can comeback fine with some gym document saying he's coming back in to get 30 exemption and apply ED

Luckily after he got detained in airport flying back, he got deported and flew to vietnam and got DTV. (Lol not that lucky it was messy and stressful but we glad he got DTV and back to thailand now.)

Anonymous participant 223 after reading the link that Mr.Greg Bewick posted.

I have a bad feeling that there might be something suspicious in these 3 uni.

my partner info once leaked to a scammer regarding ED visa too and they allegedly said that my partner's visa was registered with Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (which is uni for Bhudist monk..) And they need him to add LINE to fix some of his issues.

Was this the University with all the "Not real" Chinese Students? Have you been attending classes?

@Greg *******
no it’s not that one. And no I didn’t attend classes. Tbh they didn’t had any at the beginning, I was told it was up to me to attend or not. My previous experiences with such school was a level of class very low, like poor teaching. I have a private teacher, so I didn’t.
Greg ********
Anonymous participant So what are your options now if you are here on a long overstay? Probably best to head to airport with a flight booked and the 20k for the max fine? That what my friend had to do. He did this back in 2016 I think it was before the long blacklisting was implemented. He had a 10 year overstay.
Bradley ********
Anonymous participant so you had a education visa and you didn't attend the classes that your visa was tied to and your wondering why your visa was canceled and nobody told you? How would you know if there was a announcement in class at some point.

They attended virtual classes
