Question for the Visa-based-on-Marriage crew:

Is there a minimum required length of time that you must be married to a Thai national before applying for a marriage-based visa?

For example, assuming that an applicant meets all other requirements, could (s)he get married on a Sunday and then apply for a visa on a Monday.....while the ink dries on the certificate? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
There is no minimum required length of time that you must be married to a Thai national before applying for a marriage-based visa in Thailand. Applicants can marry and then immediately apply for a visa, as long as they meet all other requirements. However, it's important to ensure that all paperwork is in order when applying.

Jonny it is true that if you respect there dress codes have everything ready count the 5k out in front of them its all smooth. Rude pricks in front of us just got the window slammed in there face. 30 minutes waiting and handing everything in and 15 the next afternoon to pick up.

Encouraging to hear things went so smoothly.

For sure...Respect, decency, and a cool head go a long way in the region.

I worked with customers and yes, dressed nice, not rude and having the papers needed speed up the process everywhere. an unwashed smelly customer in a tank top is faster outside but without the things he came for.

Nope. Only time frame with marriage visas is three years to apply for citizenship.

, the requirements for foreign women married to thai men and foreign men married to thai women are totally different as far as how long before you can apply for citizenship, IF you can just by pass getting permanent residence, how long you need to be married and how long you need to be paying thai tax.

They are different as night and day.
Caitlin *****
Nah residence and citizenship isn't the same.

Yeah lance your right, I wouldn't put it past them.

I'm on my journey to getting citizenship now - before they decide to change the laws lol.
Lance *******
I think it was still 3 but must be paying tax etc for that time for a man

I always thought it was 7 years living in the country to apply for "residence" regardless of gender, but not sure if that's the same as "citizenship".
Lance *******
Sorry can't remember looked into it and gave up on that idea. TiT if they want to revoke it they will find a clause
Caitlin *****
And no once you get citizenship that's it. Not revocable on those terms.
Caitlin *****
Yeah it is.

Only archaic law I'm ok with lol. But the time frame of having to be married three years is the same isn't it?

I think that's because under certain severely-outdated laws here, foreign women wed to Thai men are technically considered to be "adopted" rather than married. Don't quote me on this though. Just what I heard.

I wonder if they can revoke your citizenship via marriage following a divorce? ๐Ÿค”

@Lance ******
isn't it the same time frame though?

For a woman married to a thai man. Not as simple other way around.

You can go straight out of the Amphur to get in some neighbor country a Visa based on Marriage, for me if you marry based on love, enjoy the day and the wedding night with the bride and at least wait a day or two before leaving her.
