TLDR : Answer Summary
To stay in Thailand after marriage, you cannot apply for a permanent visa. Instead, you will need to apply for a NON-O visa outside Thailand, and once married, seek an extension of stay based on your marriage. This extension must be renewed annually, and you must report to the local immigration office every 90 days. To qualify for the extension, you will need to demonstrate a minimum income of 400,000 baht per year.

You would not be applying for a visa - you would apply for an extension of stay based on marriage, and this extension must be renewed each and every year. Additionally you will need to report to your local immigration office every 90 days.

@Pa**
. No worries, that's what the group is for.

sorry to ask same question, just want to get clear. as you know, these things can be confusing at first. thanks sir.
Steve *******
@Pa**
. Yes, with the multi entry you leave the country every 90 days.
Paul ********
oh okay, i see. and this is different from when you get the temporary 90 day O-Visa, and then get the extension within Thailand?
Steve *******
@Pa**
. Savanakhet, Laos. HCM, Vietnam and Penang, Malaysia issue the multi entry non imm O based on marriage to a Thai national.
Paul ********
ok thank you sir.
Steve *******
@Pa**
. There are some consulates in the region that issue multi entry non imm O visas with the correct documents
Paul ********
@Steve ******
thanks. just to clarify, the 1 year multi entry sounds like something else entirely. is that the one that you apply for in your home country?
Steve *******
@Pa**
. No difference with the 90 day reports wether you get your origional 90 day non imm O inside or outside the country. You only leave every 90 days with the 1 year multi entry non imm O.

@Tod ********
is there a difference in 90 day reports if I apply for the original O-visa inside versus outside Thailand? For example, if I apply for original O-visa outside of Thailand, do I need to leave Thailand every 90 days, or can 90 day report be done at local immigration office?

Very informative thread.

Thanks for all the info.

Carlos DeMarco. Yes, providing you have at least 15 days remaining on your admitted to stay stamp

agreed. It is transitional, in the sense that it is the only visa that one can obtain within the country and is used, during the last 30 days to apply for an extension of stay. P.S. Is the OP currently in Thailand? His bio has him living in Queensland.

Here's a 90 day Non-O visa gotten from the immigration office inside the country

@Al ******
, what you do is you apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O <-( O meaning other) visa at the immigration office when you have 15 or more days remaining on either your 30 day visa exempt entry or your 60 day tourist visa entry. It's not transitional to anything, you're applying for a brand new visa.

After that you get the 90 day Non-O and are on the last 30 days of that stamp you can apply for the yearly extension of stay

@Da***
, you don't need to apply for a 90 day Non-Immigrant visa outside of thailand. They can be gotten inside the country.
Al *******
David John Philpott yes, except for the non imm o which is a transitional visa and can be obtained via the local immigration office.

@A*
. The first time is a visa obtained outside of Thailand

@Tod ********
actually I believe even on a 60 tourist visa they could apply for the extension of stay during the last 30 days of that visa.
Tod *********
they would FIRST be applying for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa or they aren't gonna get any extension of stay :/

okay you might want to edit your post because there is NO visa that lets you stay here permanently. Visas and or extensions of stays based on marriage to a thai are for a maximum of year at a time. Then you'd either go by a new visa from a thai consulate or apply for a new yearly extension at your immigration office.

Get a non immigrant o visa in your country . After married apply for ext. of stay based on marriage be able to show income of 400,000 baht per year . Very simple process you can do yourself .
