Is the 60-day Covid extension for tourist visas in Thailand still available?

I’m currently in Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa and have the option to extend for another 30 days.

I’m wondering if the 60 day Covid extension is still being offered by immigration? I met someone the other night who has been extending their tourist visa for the last two years. But I’ve also heard this might be coming to an end?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 60-day Covid extension for tourist visas in Thailand is still available, but applicants must first take the regular 30-day extension before being eligible for the Covid extension. Whether or not the extension will be granted is discretionary and up to the immigration officer. There is an ongoing discussion about the potential tightening of Covid extension approvals due to past leniency by immigration offices.

I'm wondering how is it possible that every person who posts this question misses all the the previous posts asking exactly the same question...i mean, it's happening like twice a day or more? Do they not use the search function at all, and if not, why? Maybe they truly believe they're the first who is wondering about such a thing so there's absolutely no point in even trying to search for the answer? The mystery of this keeps me awake at night...

Okay, the way the NEW covid program (that started on Jan 26th and runs until March 25th) works is

For new entrants to thailand on either a 30 day visa exempt or a 60 day tourist visa entry you HAVE to take the one 'regular' 30 day extension you can get on those type of entries FIRST before you can even be eligible to apply for a 60 day covid extension.

you are correct there are many many thousands of people who showed up before the lock down, took the free amnesty and then have been on covid extensions since Nov 1 2020 when they started the program. The fault is 100% the thai immigration office for handing out those covid extensions just because people don't want to leave (seeing as you have been able to leave thailand this whole time since the lock down). I think that is why we're seeing more vetting and a more stringent procedure to hand out covid extensions where as before they did it to every Tom, Dick and Somchai foreigner who said they didn't want to leave yet.

It's still available for those on tourist visas but you have to take the 30 days extension first before you can apply. Whether you can then get a "Covid" extension will be up to the immigration officer you request it from as it's discretionary. If you're wanting to be here longer term you need to be looking for a more reliable option.

As your profile clearly states you are working while here, why not get a non-b and work permit?
