Just got back from extending my visa non imm O based on marriage paid my 1900 baht but now in a couple days they come to my home I guess for inspection and confirmation of us being married. Was told there is a 3000 baht charge for this. Seems a bit high because the visa itself was only 1900 anybody know about this charge?? Not sure if it’s legit or not as I never got this visa before. First timer. Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user recently extended their Non-O visa based on marriage and was informed that there would be a 3000 baht charge for a home inspection as part of the process. Many commenters expressed disbelief at this fee, stating that they never paid more than the standard 1900 baht application fee and had never encountered a charge for such home inspections. They emphasized that the visit should not incur any costs and warned the original poster that this might be a scam. Overall, the consensus among commenters is that no payment beyond the 1900 baht should be expected, and any demands for additional fees should be treated with skepticism.

I have an O type marriage visa. I have renewed it (!!!!) three times. Apparently, unknown and unrequested by me they had changed this to a retirement visa by scribbling 'retirement' in Thai over the visa renewal notice stamp in my passport. (I had always kept over 800,000Baht in that account because they kept talking about changing the rules). This past year I spent money from that account installing solar panels lowering the balance to 570,000Baht. They REFUSED to extend my marriage visa saying I had a retirement visa and not enough money in the bank. I would have to REAPPLY for a NEW marriage visa. I naturally objected, as I ONLY have a type 'O' marriage visa with extension stamps in my passport and have never sought a retirement visa, but they insisted... I am now on a temporary extension waiting to see if they will issue me a new marriage visa... I have been waiting now over a month. I am still unsure if I should engage lawyers.

The Non imm 0 'marriage' visa and 'retirement' visa are one and the same visa, they're just issued for different reasons. Didnt you notice the change in extention of stay last year?
Kool *******
@Edgar ********
everytime you extended your marriage extension there should have been a stamp in your passport that said "Thai Wife" in English. If that stamp was not there then you didn't have it.
Edgar *********
@Kool ******
My visa has the word SPOUSE written on it when it was issued.

don’t engage in agents unless you have lots of money to burn
Tod *********
There is NO charge for the in home inspection AND if they try to wring money out of you tell them you want a receipt AND take a photo of them when they show up at the house. That usually stops the bs "there is a fee" for the home inspection crap

Can call anonymously and ask question the warning may filter to there office.

It may have become the norm in province where you are as people have offered and its got out of hand. Even the small amounts some people have said eventually lead to bigger amounts and ruin it for everyone.

It's a scam.. they often try for petrol money but that's a con.

As someone already said ask them for an itemized receipt.

Problem is that Thai partners are often intimidated by the uniform and afraid of upsetting them.

Tell them your law man said nil to pay

If they actually do visit, and try to charge you bt3000, do not pay anything unless they give you a receipt that states exactly what the charge is for, then immediately contact the director's office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to file a formal complaint, sending them a copy of the receipt, and the names of the immigration agents that visited. You will never see those agents again, and never have anyone else trying to charge you more than the bt1900. It is completely illegal.
Laurie ***********
@Kool ******
They won't give you a receipt...

In Bangkok they came the very next day after application, they took pictures of me, with me, and me holding up rental contract and bankbook readable. Polite and no "fee".

This was only after first non-O. Visa, for 1y ext no visit for me.
Jatzek ********
I did my non o also first time this year. I paid 1900

They came took photos and we gave them some coffee money
Michael ********
@Jatzek *******
Should not give them any money. I had in october for first time, we offered drinks and snacks, that called being polite.

But giving any money is a no no. Its
Jatzek ********
Well different strokes for different folks.

That's what was expected from the immigration officer so we do as we are told

Your very lucky to not pay nothing.

Here on the island some people pay for there hotel and pay food and drink bill.

So I was lucky

You shall only pay 1,900 baht nothing more to pay.

I complete application for my husband for more than 7 yrs. we paid 1,900 baht only.
Kevin ******
Never paid for the house visit for the past 3 years. Due to covid last year it took them 3 months to come and visit. Pretty brazen to say you have to pay 3,000. The 1,900 is what I paid as well in HatYai.
Colin **********
I've had at least 4 visits no charge
Paul *******
I paid only the 1,900 tb at Chiang Mai Airport Immigration.
