I'm changing from over 50 visa to marriage to Thai , everything ok and now waiting to return to immigration office for visa stamp next month. Received phone call to say I will get visit from io today and have to pay 2000b when they arrive. Is this normal practice as I checked in numerous sites and 2 immigration offices and found no mention of this charge.

Just wondering .

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user transitioning from an over 50 visa to a marriage visa is questioning the legitimacy of a 2000 Baht fee they were asked to pay during an immigration office visit. Community responses indicate that fees for immigration visits are unusual and suggest asking for a receipt if approached for payment.

To make it easy, if YOU love to pay a tip, it is YOU who pay, not the person who say thanks.

If you come to me and wiling to put bank notes in my pockets, I would say thank YOU.

I guess you got the picture, do not blame others, it is you giving away money.

Don't tip. Ask for a receipt instead. No receipt, no payment.

if immigration want to go on a road trip, the gasoline and salaries are paid by the Government. If somebody comes to your house ask ID cards and if they want money, first ask an official bill or receipt.
