What is the process of home visits by Immigration for the NON-O married visa in Thailand?

I wrote a thread last week sharing my experience with CM immigration.. went in to apply for my 12-month non-o married visa before my 90-day initial visa expires on 4-Sep-23.. just to clarify, this is my first married visa so it was not a renewal.. they approved it in principle with an 'under consideration' period of 1-month.. meaning they extended the existing stamp by 1-month to 4-Oct-23, and i need to return then to get the actual 1-year visa stamped in my passport.. prior to leaving immigration last week the IO mentioned that i could get a phone call from somebody to ask me a few questions over the intervening period.. but strangely did not mention that we could get a home visit.. which i had anticipated from reading other threads in this group.. then today my wife got a phone call from an IO to tell her they needed to make a home visit and wanted to come tomorrow afternoon.. which is not a problem but somewhat short notice.. i guess it's their way of putting you on the spot though.. but the IO told her they needed to take some photos of us at home (which we have already provided) and that we would need to pay a fee for this.. although it wasn't quantified it left my wife believing they expected money to change hands to ensure a smooth process.. this necessity seems absurd to me given 'photos' are already part of the application i have filed.. and i just wondered if anyone in this group has any recent experience of this part of the process when interacting with Immigration in CM.. i have no worries whatsoever regarding the credibility of my application.. but do object to someone moonlighting to earn illegitimate income (ie. off the books) by insinuating their might be a problem if they don't get a sweetener!

UPDATE The IO visited this afternoon (Thursday) armed with a colour inkjet printer.. solitary person (unaccompanied) and a very jovial soul indeed.. the primary purpose was to get an attestation from our next door neighbour (who I've known for at least 8 years now) that we live here as a married couple.. she needed to produce her IC for him to copy and sign a couple of documents.. and have her photo taken with me and my wife sat on the sofa.. took all of 25 minutes and he was on his way.. no mention of fees (or sweeteners) whatsoever and he left with a bottle of iced water for his trouble.. all's well that ends well as they say.. but he did clarify that i can't leave Thailand until the full year visa gets stamped in my passport.. otherwise I'll disrupt the process and will have to start over again!.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience applying for a 12-month NON-O married visa at CM immigration and mentions an 'under consideration' period of one month. After receiving preliminary approval, they anticipate a home visit from an immigration officer (IO) who later confirms the visit. Initially concerned about possible fees or bribes, the user reports that the IO's visit was straightforward, requiring neighbor verification and took only 25 minutes, with no mention of fees. Several comments from the community reflect on their own experiences with home visits, often indicating a cultural nuance where offering food or drinks to the IO is common, but cash payments are typically not expected. Some users caution against making direct payments unless properly documented.

allow me to clarify but one thing,
@Ally ***********
: the 12 month "thing" is not a "visa". The visa you began the procedure with, has long ago expired. Immigration is too lazy to make a difference between a "visa" and a "stay permit". They wrongly talk about a "visa extension", yet actually they do nor extend any visa, they will be extending your "stay permit". A visa is used when entering the country, and upon entering, you will receive a stay permit for a certain duration of time. You will be able to see this when you receive the final stamp in your passport. It will say "extension of stay permitted until . . and the date" and there will be zero indication that this stamp would be kind of a "visa stamp". It is a "one year stay permit based on marriage with a thai wife", period

Well, I prefer to stick to the correct wording, because I am giving Thai visa-related advice in a dozen of groups for many years 😇

Yes.. i agree that it's important to be factually correct regarding your situation and the type of 'permission' you require when you are seeking advice in such a forum.. but when you are not requesting help from anyone then it's hardly important 😉

I'm fully aware of this.. it matters not what they choose to call it.. it comes down to the same thing in my book.. the right to live in Thailand with my wife.. don't know why people get so hung up on labels to be honest.. unless of course they have applied for the wrong visa/permit/stamp.. it only becomes relevant if someone is asking the group for advice on their specific situation.. not so much when someone is simply posting their story 🧐

As a female that did this for the first time this year, once you get over the initial stuff leading up to the IO visit it's pretty simple. They will either call you to say your visa is ready, OR you just go to the imm office on the date on your passport book to get the stamp. Then you do the 90- day report which starts 90 days from the start of your extention stamp date. FYI, you can do the 90 day report a few days before or after that date, check the website for the exact number of days. You've got all the hard stuff done, good for you!

In CM they actually put a stamp in my passport with the date for my first 90-day report.. which was very helpful of them
Henrik ****
@Ally ***********
, yes, Prachin does the same and registers you in the online system (at least sometimes)...
Henrik ****
@Lauren ******
, the 90-Day report can be done up to 14 days before and up to 7 days after the due date. Before that they will not receive it, and after that they will fine you a ticket of 2,000 THB.

Today I was asked for 500bht for them to come out . Same visa as you. I politely declined.

5th year for our marriage extension, every year a visit to the house ( same house ) Never a problem with the house visit. The office paperwork is a challenge most years but not impossible and never a brown envelope involved

we were told 4000bt for gas money. and paid

I stay Prachin Buri. For the first 3 extensions, I think, they asked for a home visit. They wanted to talk to neighbors with copies of their ID cards. And have a picture of me and my wife together at our home. The second time and third times, they asked for 1,000 THB up front for it at the IO to make it smoother. Then they came the same day as filing the application.

There's no fee for attending them attending your home address. They clearly sensed weakness. Many immigration offices do the house visit by Line.

If next day isn't convenient then tell them so. Arrange another day.

As for the bribe, just neither of you mention it. Just leave it up to them to ask for it. Then if they do j just offer to pay by scan. At the end of the day, if your paperwork is solid, you're going to get your extension. They may make you wait a bit but, whatever, it's on its way.

, my advice would be not to bite the hand feeding you.

, I guess you want something from the IO?

your tepid fear-mongering is wasted on me.
Henrik ****
@เตเต้ *****
, make your own problem if you like. Your fear-mongering BS is your own problem. You have no right to stay in Thailand by law.
เตเต้ ******
@Henrik ***
😂 how is me not being an insufferable beta-farang re immigration corruption fear-mongering when you’re continually projecting your own insecurities? Are you PO’d cause you’re running out of options?
Henrik ****
@เตเต้ *****
, it is not being brave to be a fool. Yes, you are exactly a stupid farang thinking you are still back home in your country having rights as a citizen. The law of Thailand says that the final decision to grant you entry, a visa, or an extension is at the discretion of the IO. If you think it is fear-mongering to know the law instead of fighting the ones granting your stay permit, then be my guest. To me, you are a fool if you do not navigate in the environment where you operate.
เตเต้ ******
@Henrik ***
how does any of that non sequiturial subversive blabber from you relate to anything said here 😂 . The bootlicking cliche is an tiresome narrative that only amplifies one’s own desperation.
Henrik ****
@เตเต้ *****
, I am advising ppl not to bite the hand feeding you, and you call it "fear-mongering". I am just informing you that the IO is the one feeding you with your stay permit, and that trying to fight them will only leave you as a loser - as you have no right to stay in Thailand. And yes, you might very well end up desperate when having to leave Thailand because you think you are bravely denying to pay a little fee to have a home visit done smoothly because you wrongfully think the IO has no power over you, and you do not want to live in fear.

IO officer at Bkk airport said to my wife “ I can let you and the little man come in (our son),

but for your husband I need some Whiskey “

Last year the IO told my Thai wife she eould call and take photos using Line. It wasnt a problem as the regular visa office was absent. The regular guy had no problems and we were happy to comply.

Rule of thumb re cops & $.

Unless they can provide a detailed receipt go to or meet them at the closest station to finalize it.

If a traffic stop do same even if you have to call Grab to bring you there because most won’t let you use your bike/vehicle as thats part of the grift.

If you can’t speak Thai call Tourist police AFTER they’re finished with you or there’s a break in the discussion.

1155 or (+66) 2308-0333

If it happens more than once get them in front of a dash cam or house cam and retain a lawyer.

yes, the tourist police are extremely responsive in intervening with the party on the phone while everyone is standing there. They’ve helped me twice.

Come to ours no fee changes hands, did ask for a fee one year to not come 5555. We said come anyway one of IOs lives down the street 555
Mo ******
Yeah it’s standard ,

They come and check that you actually live where you say you do.

Nothing to worry about

The most stressful part is the first trip to CW wondering if you have everything

We had the visit from immigration police with the photos of me and wifey in front of house, also in addition to the ones we had already provided with the initial application. Whilst no money changed hands nor indeed, was it asked for, the officers did go away with some freshly cooked fish, rice and other foodstuffs that had been prepared by aunty next door. They seemed happy with that. It seems to be the way in Thailand. Same with people doing work on the house or whatever. They still get fed and watered in addition to any agreed price.

my application for the marriage visa (2 years ago) regarding pictures was similar to yours in that I applied the required pictures but then when the application was processed and I eat in the 30 day 'pending' stamp they asked for a new set of pictures. The difference in my case was they didn't do any onsite inspection and I took and supplied the pictures myself and no extra fees (Chiang Mai office, near airport)

So, yes, the extra pictures seem 'normal' in my experience, the fee? Not so sure.
