Is Savannakhet, Laos still the best option for a Non-Immigrant type O year visa without proof of funds?

Is Savannakhet, Laos still the best place to go for Non Immigrant type O year visa? Or are there other consulates that sell the visa without proof of funds? I've been on a student visa for a few years, but now finished studies, and need to revert back to family (dependants) visa status. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Savannakhet, Laos is not currently the best place to obtain a year-long Non-Immigrant type O visa without proof of funds, especially for parental reasons. Alternatives like the Thai consulate in Penang, Malaysia do exist, but they require proof of funds (400K baht). However, both Savannakhet and Vientiane can issue a 90-day single entry visa without proof of funds if you present the child's birth certificate, the mother's Thai ID card, and the house book.

But they do the 90-day single entry, right?

Thanks, that's great :)

I'll do that. You can close the thread, Todd.

Both Savannakhet and Vientiane will do 90 day single entry without proof of funds with just your name on the child's birth certificate, the mother's thai i/d card and the house book listing of the child.

AFAIK; you haven't been able to get a year-long, multi-entry from Savannakhet OR Vientiane for raising kids even if you had court papers showing you have parental rights for quite some time now.

The ONLY place I know of would be the thai consulate in Penang Malaysia and they require you show 400K baht in a bank account (thai or foreign)

You aren't going to get a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa from Savannakhet for anything other than married to a thai.

Ah, thanks Todd. So things have changed there over the last few years? A birth certificate and legal custodian docs used to suffice.

Your profile reads living in Bangkok, you best get a visa to meet your long term "visit"!
