TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a 30-day visit visa, you generally need to show proof of funds amounting to 20,000 Thai Baht (or equivalent in other currencies). However, whether you are asked to show this cash is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Some travelers report never being asked for this proof, while others confirm it is a requirement. Additionally, you should have a return flight booking and proof of accommodation, as these may also be requested.

The rule is: Immigration Officers are allowed to ask for 1)Proof of funds of 20.000 Thb or equivalent currency in CASH, 2) Proof of onward travel within the time you get stamped in for 3) Proof of accommodation. Who get asked for this and who get asked to show 1, 2 or all three proofs is the decision of the Immigration Officer. Not getting asked does not mean this rule is not there. I close the commenting after I deleted several incorrect answers.

If your passport as I see in the comments is from Pakistan, you need to get a Tourist Visa before you make your way into Thailand. Pakistan is not listed for the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry or the Visa on Arrival.

I think you should specifically for Pakistanis as every country has different rules for each country.

With my homeland's passport I can not enter Thailand, with my new country's passport I have been to Thailand at least once a month and ask about anything.

You only need to show it if asked.

20,000 Baht in cash (or equivalent value in other currency).

I am amazed by some of the answers... YES he needs to have :

- 20k bahts (or in other currencies) in CASH

- Printed return flight

- Proof of accommodation

It’s a rule!

The immigration officer can ask any or all of those.

It’s not because you have never been asked to show the cash that he won’t be.

Visit visa and tourist visa have little different.

If you invited buy your relative or friends and have invitation latter from them then only return ticket is enough. But be sure you friend or relative available on confirmation by IO.

Otherwise you need confirmed hotel booking and

baht or equivalent currency.

U hope you are coming on sticker visa from Pakistan. Not VOA.

May be my travel/work history played some role for not being asked or some other reasons , best known by immigration authorities.

Be careful... “almost” 20.000 is NOT 20.000 .. I realized it the hard way.. lol

David Broadfoot initially I had the 20k... but while in the airplane I decided to buy a small gift... I thought it wouldn’t be an issue.

I reached the immigration with 18k.

The thing is, they don’t really deny you entry “because “ you don’t have the 20k, but they use the fact that you don’t have them to justify that they deny you entry.

In my case, they found that I had “too many” tourism visas.

But they can’t legally block you for that.

So they try to find another reason.

refused entry... slept a night in detention cell... sent back to where I was coming from.... bad ... very bad
