Am I correct in thinking that with a walk in visa I am required to show 20000 baht - can this by done by showing an updated Thai bank book or does it have to be cash in the pocket ? also what else is required and how many days should I expect to be given ?
Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand without a visa (via visa exemption), travelers are typically required to show proof of funds, which must be in cash rather than just a bank statement. The amount required is generally 20,000 baht or its equivalent in another currency. In terms of accommodation, if staying with family, a letter of invitation from the host is generally accepted as proof.
Okay, let's go over the times you're likely to be asked for proof of funds and what you can use to meet those requirements
When you enter the country you can be asked for proof of funds and in that instance it HAS to be cash. While the posted rule is 10K baht entering visa exempt immigration officers have been known to ask to see 20K baht (or the equivalent).
The other time is when you BUY a visa from a thai consulate in another country and in that instance it HAS to be banked money.
best for transporting? If it would be 1000.000 euro it would be easiest with 500 bills but I hardly believe 5 100bills would be to much to carry in your wallet....;)
If you walk over the border or on the airport does not make any difference. Without knowing what the country of origin of you passport is we can not tell how many days you can get.
I heared lady's talking about walk-in closets. a Walk-in Visa does not exist. If you come to Thailand without a Visa 54 countries are eligible for the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry. The Immigration Officer can ask for proof of funds: 20.000 Thb or equivalent curreny in CASH, proof of accommodation and onward travel.
