TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand by plane, it is legally required to show 20,000 baht (or 40,000 baht for families) if asked by immigration officials. However, in practice, the overwhelming majority of travelers report never being asked to show proof of funds, especially if they are first-time visitors or hold a valid visa. It is advisable to carry the required amount to avoid potential issues, as refusal of entry can occur if an immigration officer deems it necessary to check finances.
That's only for Canadian dollars. USD they've raised it to $35,000.

Unless you look like a broke ass foreigner that is going to overstay and beg for money to cover their $5 hostel, should be ok.
If you cannot easily access 20k baht or about $700 us, you may run into issues if they do question you. In the past 4 trips in 3 years, never came ups.

Most replies will say the immigration officer won't check, but remember it's a Legal requirement to bring enough cash when one entering Thailand..

20,000thb and it has to be in small denominations 20, 50s, 100s π
bro there isn't a lot to fucking do on the Thai/Cambodian border, what do you want from me, trolling Facebook represents a large part of my day to day life when I'm not working π
If its of interest in addition to my comment above,i checked my new and old passport today and in 25 years and 41 entries to Thailand not once have I been asked on entry about my finances. But many times have obtained visa in u.k. before arriving.
I think the OP wants to know what the law is, not what people have actually experienced. I regularly drive at 150 km/h between Pattaya and Bangkok and have never been stopped, so should I advise people that it's ok for them to do that?
Good point Steve! On the subject of speeding, my Mrs lent her Pajero to her son because he was going long distance and only has an old pickup. Speeding camera fines have been arriving daily since!
I think the most difficult bet is being able to prove to your national customs u still have not bankrupt when returning from Thailand 555 π€πππΈπΈπΈ

Just carry the required amount. Rather than chance it on the basis that most people aren't asked. . (Though some are).

If immigration take a dislike to you, if you donβt have 20,000 baht in cash they can refuse entry. Officially you should carry that amount when entering Thailand but itβs rarely enforced.

Yes it's law but they hardly ever do ask. The best and quickest way to actually pass immigration without hassle is to obtain and pay for your visa at a Thai embassy in your home country. A tourist visa can now be obtained online when any and all criteria is asked allowing you to cruise though in Thailand because all relevant questions have already been satisfied before you arrive.
The official answer to that is yes. By law if asked you must show 20,000 baht (individual) or 40,000 baht (per family).
In practice 99.9% of people will never be asked. The immigration officer will generally only ever ask you to show funds if you have a history of multiple entries into Thailand and they suspect you of something like working illegally. They ask because itβs one of the reasons that they can use to deny you entry.
As a tourist or someone with a valid visa or little or no history of entering Thailand you have almost zero chance of being asked.

So I have to change money in Germany so bring the 20.000 baht right ?
Usually no, but immigration does use profiling when making the decision to check. Most of it is based on how the person looks, and smells. The larger, and more used, your backpack is, the greater the chance of being checked.
