Is it true that I can get a 60-day visa exemption on arrival in Thailand, and how do I extend it for an additional 30 days?

Will arrive in Bangkok on 31st January for onward travel to Koh Samui for 3 months visiting friends instead of my usual 60 days, in the past I have only had my passport stamped with a 30 day visa and have extended it on the island for another 30 days.

I keep hearing that this is now 60 days with the option to extend for another 30 days, is this true and if so is it done automatically on arrival or do I have to ask for it. And do I need to show any documents e.g. my return flights.

Thank You.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Travelers arriving in Thailand from certain countries are now eligible for a 60-day visa exemption, which can be extended for an additional 30 days. This change, effective since July, allows visitors to stay in Thailand for a total of 90 days with proper extension. Upon arrival, the 60-day exemption is given automatically, but it is advisable to have proof of onward travel to avoid issues with airlines or immigration. Extensions can still be processed as before.

They don’t stamp passports with a visa. It’s a visa-exempt stamp (no visa).

Why not ask your friends who live at samui instead of asking the same question that gets asked 25 times per day? Or "search or scroll" the group or use "Google"???

60 days indeed, since July.

Immigration rarely ask for evidence of your return flight but airlines often do. If you haven’t got a flight out of Thailand within the first 60 days, they may refuse to let you board. It may also cause issues with your travel insurance.

The 30 day extension you get the same way you have always done.

It's 60 days for many passports holders. In UK it's on the UK govt website.

If your home country is on this list you'll get automatically a 60 day "visa exemption", this can be extended once for another 30 days.
