Is it safe to do a border run to Malaysia with a valid Thai tourist visa?

Hello everybody!

Me and my wife are currently on Samui, on the tourist e-visa that we have already extended once, it is going to expire on February 27th. We're Swedish, if that matters.

We're considering going for a border run to Malaysia before the visa expires to get the visa-free 45 days, and the question is - would it be a problem that the tourist visa is technically still valid when we enter back? It is a single-entry visa, so I'm afraid the border officer will turn us back to Malaysia.

Thank you very much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is currently in Thailand on a tourist e-visa that has been extended once and will expire soon. They plan to do a border run to Malaysia before the visa's expiration and are concerned whether entering Thailand again would be an issue since their tourist visa is still valid, even though it is a single-entry visa. Comments from the community indicate that the visa is considered invalid once used to enter Thailand, so there should not be an issue returning after the border run.

FYI you can get max of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE ENTRIES EACH CALENDAR YEAR into Thailand. And each entry gets the same Visa Exempt Entry number of days as flying.

Your tourist visa was invalidated the moment you used it to enter Thailand. If you had one of the old visas that goes in your passport, they would have stamped "USED" over it.

thank you Brandon, that's very reassuring!

Not a problem as the extension of stay now in your passport will end on your leaving Thailand.

You entered Thailand with a Thai tourist visa that you purchased in your home country and was stamped in for 60 days

Plus one 30 day extension of stay you got at your local Thai immigration office.

thank you. NO problem. You will get 45 days stamp on arrival plus eligible for one 30 day extension of stay at Thai immigration office.

Thru March 31 ..per current rules...

BUT that may be extended for the rest of 2023. It's a PROPOSAL.

OTHERWISE, it's 30 days stamp Visa exempt entry from April 1.

Watch the news reports for updates ... And this forum too.

days thing, it should not hopefully affect us as we're planning to go back home in the beginning of April.
