Will I face issues re-entering Thailand with a second tourist visa after multiple border runs?

Hi 👋

After having done three border run this year and had already gotten one tourist visa, I am wondering if I could have an issue coming back to Thailand with a second tourist visa that I would apply in Penang?

I will plan to have either a student, work or business visa soon yet because I only have 30 days left it might be too short of time for these.

My intuition tells me that even if I get the visa I could have issue at the border.

Is there such a thing as “negative consequence” border refusal stamp?

If you do get refused at one border, can you try to go to another border the same day?

Thank you 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on re-entering Thailand after multiple border runs and obtaining a second tourist visa. Concerns include potential complications at the border due to previous entries and the possibility of receiving a negative entry stamp. Comments suggest that a denied entry stamp could affect future entries, and while it's possible to try different borders if denied entry, having a tourist visa may not alleviate concerns about re-entry due to the user’s travel history.

I also came back to Thailand but only once...Can I still come back in two months time without hassles ?......In the advent of any, can I present another passport to get a new entry ?......my first use of passport is a French one, as the other one ( unused ) is a French one.....Thanks for reading.

Will you also present different fingerprints? Your recent history of staying in Thailand determines whether you're likely to have issues.

so, am I to understand that finger prints rules over any passports when it comes to the individual as such....

With your history it's quite likely you will have an issue at any border. Having a tourist visa will not help with this. The biggest benefit to having a visa is allowing you to try a land entry if you've already used your 2 land entries this year. All you can do is try it and see but have an alternative plan to go somewhere else

by alternative plan, what do you recommend? Coming back by flight?

no, I mean to go elsewhere. You're more likely to get denied flying in than at a land border, and then you're in the hands of immigration as to what happens then usually either return you to where you came from or to your own country, at your expense.

An immigration Officer once told me that doing visa runs it's best to stay a couple of weeks in the other country. I have been spoken to a few times while trying to get into Thailand. Each time they talked to me for a bit and said 'Next time...' like they knew I would doing another visa run in the near future. You should be ok to do visa run.

Last (only) time I did Penang the border crossing required you have 20,000 baht on you. I think they may have been particular about it being in Baht - so you'll want to ask the group about crossing at that border. I did it a few years ago, before covid.

I stayed in Malaysia for two weeks and was given a warning that I need to find another visa type. I thought she was going to deny entry, but I had my girlfriend waiting for me. I do have lots of exempt stamps though. Been here 1 year on exemptions.

I'm currently trying to figure out what I should do for the next time. I may use an agent or apply for Non-O for medical; legit dental work.

Jeff Wee Jeff, do you mean it’s possible that I get a 4th border run visa exempt in one year?

I didn't know you could do Medical visa for Dental. Good luck to you.

You could also try different borders/countries. I visited several countries on visa runs, its kinda nice.

A denied entry stamp can potentially affect any future entries into Thailand or even into other countries sometimes.

If you are simply told no at a land border you can try a different border or try a different day. If you receive an actual denied entry stamp you're not going to get in through any land border with that country and you'll need to fly back to Thailand and try your luck at the airport.

what can trigger to have a denied entry stamp rather than just a no?

In my situation how probable is it that I get such stamp?

no one can answer this. It's at the discretion of the immigration officers.
