What are the chances of successfully completing a visa run to Maesai or Vientienne and re-entering Thailand?

Hello,

I arrived in Thailand from Canada in Sep 2016 on a 6 month METV. I then left to Laos and entered back in the Kingdom at the end of February 2017 with a 1 year ED visa (studying Thai language). I then went to the border at Maesai and Myanmar a day before my ED visa was up. The officers were super helpful and cancelled my visa once I had the correct papers printed off and I went into the market in Myanmar for a few hours. When I came back to the Thai side the lady looked at my passport for quite some time and made a phone call (couldn't hear what she was saying). She reluctantly gave me my stamp and let me back in when I told her I was a student in Thai when she asked if I was finished teaching.

My question is: What are the chances of me being able to do one last visa run (will be leaving the country in the next 2ish months) in Maesai or Vientienne and be sure that I will be let back in the country? Does anyone have any experience with multiple long-term visas and not really leaving the country much for a long period of time? I'm concerned I will leave my stuff at my house here and not be allowed back in.

TIA for any insights/help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post details a user's experience with visa runs in Thailand, specifically discussing their recent visa end dates and concerns about re-entry. They previously held different types of visas, including a METV and ED visa, and now seek advice on doing another visa run to either Maesai or Vientienne while worrying about potential re-entry problems. Comments offer insights on the procedure to ensure successful border crossings, emphasizing the importance of canceling previous visas before approaching border crossings and clarifying the nature of their current visa status.

I think the problem you had was because as a rule you cancel your extension of stay BEFORE you get to a border crossing at the immigration office with the documentation from your school THEN you go to the border and bounce out and back in for a visa exempt entry.

As long as you haven't gotten two visa exempt entries this year I don't think you'd have a problem doing a 'border-bounce' <- where you go stamp out of the country, stamp in&out of another country and stamp back into thailand (you're not doing a 'visa-run' <- where you go to a thai consulate and BUY a visa)..

Actually you're now on a Visa Exempt Entry for 30 days, entry without a Visa. You can extend this once with 30 days at Immigration Office, than do a second border run for a new 30 day Visa Exempt Entry and extend again or visit a Thai consulate or Embassy and apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa which will give you 60 days stay with the possibility to extend with another 30 days at Immigration.

Yes, I am aware of that. The visa was up on Feb 15th I went on Feb 14th. The officers said if I didn't cancel the visa since I was leaving before, I would not be able to enter back into Thailand when I was leaving that day. My school sent me the cancel papers and they cancelled the visa. I am now on a 30 day visa I would ideally like to stay until mid May so even with an extension I cannot do that which is why I want to make sure I am able to do another visa run before I purchase my ticket home.

You mention that you left Thailand a day before you ED visa was up. I guess you mean that you left just before the enter before date, this means this visa is now nothing more than a memory in your passport and can not be used again.
