Is it Possible to Pay for a Trailing Spouse Visa Extension Instead of Leaving Thailand?

Hi Tod, me again! So, attempted trailing spouse visa stamp extension. Whilst the guy was very friendly and polite he made out he had no idea what I was talking about. Told me I need to leave by end of July and come back again (assuming airports etc open).

Question: altho too early to say whether quarantine and certificates etc would be needed for me to leave and come back, is it possible to pay for extension at end of July rather than bounce out? Or on non-O multi entry I really do need to leave?

Wouldn’t bother me at all to bounce as long as no quarantine and certificates etc needed... but....

Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification about the possibility of extending their trailing spouse visa (Non-O multi-entry) in Thailand without having to leave the country. They mention receiving unclear information about needing to leave the country by the end of July due to current regulations. The comments provide insights that suggest if the visa remains valid when borders reopen, the user may be able to leave and re-enter, provided they meet the new entry requirements.

No one is gonna know at all what the new entry requirements will be so that's something you're just gonna wait and see.

BUT

As long as your year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa is still valid when the borders open you could bounce out and back (assuming you met the entry requirements) and get a new 90 day entry stamp from it

what do you mean "attempted the trailing spouse" visa extension? You mean you are married to a foreigner who has a long term extension or what?

hi Tod, in an earlier post you mentioned I could try to get a trailing spouse extension based on my husbands OA visa as he sponsored me. Thx

usually having a person getting an extension that matches the O/A entry stamp of their spouse is not that tough at the immigration offices. Did you have less than 30 days left on your current entry stamp?

more than 30 days remaining

when was your husbands O-A visa issued? Was he required to show that he met the health insurance requirement?

yes was issued in March and we actually both had the health insurance certificate at that point as needed it anyway

Hmmm,
@Col****
, maybe because you can't apply for a yearly extension at most offices until you have 30 days or LESS left on your current entry stamp (although Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Buriram, Phuket and I think Krabi are all 45 days or less) was the reason.

I don't have the reason, BUT you could be write, and at this time there is nothing wrong with going on the amnesty when your current stamp runs out (if they haven't got the borders open yet) and then bouncing out and back once they get them open to get a new 90 day entry stamp.

Short update: went back to different part of immigration. Much more open to trailing spouse visa but needed tm30 receipt. Unfortunately original immigration man refused to let me do tm30 saying not needed! So will wait two weeks, go back again to do tm30 and then residence certificate then trailing visa. 🤞 it will work.

>to let me do tm30 saying not needed!

You *NEED* to do a TM30 no later then 24 business hours after you arrive at a location. You may expect to be fined; usually about 800THB to 2K depending on the immigration office

absolutely know! But he just wouldn’t let me! So frustrating! Am already over the maximum fine now so will try again different day! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm surprised. One way to skirt around the fine is to stay in a hotel for a night (where they'll file the TM30), and as soon as you return, file the TM30 for your house/condo.

interestingly my husband filed his today (we just totally forgot when we arrived in March as chaotic) but they didn’t fine him. But good thought either way! Thanks! 🙏

right and was your husband there with you, the marriage certificate, his passport etc?

yes he was there with all documents but he didn’t even let us get to the documents just said no. To be honest I feel the amnesty is a distraction for him as all he kept doing was say 31 July then leave and come back. Maybe need to try again when different officer...
