I went to Chiang Mai Central Festival Immigraiton to obtain a re-entry permit for an SETV.

After I had filled out the application, the officer called me up and told me I cannot get a re-entry permit on a 60-day tourist visa.

Is it only possible to obtain re-entry permits on the METV and Non-O visas?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user encountered difficulties obtaining a re-entry permit for their 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at Chiang Mai Immigration. Responses indicate that it's indeed possible to get a re-entry permit with a SETV, provided the applicant understands that it doesn't extend their stay but allows them to re-enter Thailand before their current visa expires. Some users also suggested securing a 30-day extension first to enhance the validity of the re-entry permit.

There is no reason you can't get a re-entry on a single entry tourist visa where you're stamped in for 60 days.

As long as you know it's not adding any days to your stay, just lets you exit/re-enter and get the same expiration date of the stamp you have now..

And as

said, get your 30 day extension on that 60 day tourist visa entry FIRST so that the re-entry permit is good until that expiration date

A METV (and some Non-Os) are multi-entry so don't require re-entry permits

Get your 30-day extension first, then get the re-entry permit at the airport. The permit goes to the end of your extension

You should be able to get a re-entry permit on your SETV entry. But you must be back within the date on your current stamp. A re-entry permit wouldn't add a single day.

In case you have a passport of visa-exempt countries.

Or did the officer told you you "CANNOT" apply for a re-entry permit exactly or you "don't need" to apply for re-entry permit?
