Is it true that thailand has been denying soft power DTVs for people who have been in Thailand at another point in the year? I was looking to apply for an METV and then after that expires get a DTV, but someone in another group told me it would get denied. I have an American passport!
Answer summary
Concerns have been raised about the possibility of American passport holders being denied Soft Power Education Visas (DTVs) if they have previously stayed in Thailand during the same year. However, multiple users in the discussion shared their experiences indicating that this claim is likely unfounded. Many reported successfully obtaining DTVs after traveling to Thailand with different visa types, such as METV, and emphasized that misinformation often circulates in communities. The consensus appears to be that as long as required documentation and proof of financial capability are in order, the process should remain smooth for eligible applicants.

I dont have any data but to me it seems completely legit that at first you would come with a tourist visa or without any visa at all just to check out different schools/gyms, and only after that start working on the application/documentation for your visa... to be honest, it seems more reasonable than just choosing a gym at random without any previous contact

Not true. Probably a troll creating uncertainty. Some people are jealous of DTV holders and invent all sorts of fictitious obstacles to the application process and, afterwards, when entering Thailand.

You have a strong passport. Signup for a legit soft power activity and you should be fine. Consider applying in your home country for the DTV.

Why do you listen to some person who was told by another person who's wife's cousin heard it from some guy from India

You're fine. Besides making a typo most people have no issues. I spent almost 2.5 years in Thailand before I applied for the DTV in the Philippines for Muay Thai. Picked a 9 month course.

Took 8 days from start to finish. No computer, did it on my phone while island hoping. That included resubmitting some paperwork they asked for.

Not sure if this helps, but hope so

Someone lied to you. You should block all the people spreading misinformation like that.

I think you are referring to ppl that have been staying long-term in Thailand using visa-exempt and border bounces. Spending time in Thailand as a tourist using the correct visa will not, in my opinion, affect your DTV application

American here.

4 years in Thailand under NonB + WP.

Just got approved in Hanoi for DTV soft power.

5 business days in total, no extra document requested.

Fear mongering at its best! If you have all docs in order and enough financial support you should be fine.

That is not true at all. Plenty of METVERS have gone onto become DTVERS.

"I saw someone post, 'Thailand is denying every American now.' 😂

Yeah... and the comments section instantly became a PhD program in Immigration Law.

Pro tip: don't treat Facebook comments as official policy. About 90% of them are confidence with zero evidence. 🤷‍♂️
